San Diego Comic-Con 2017: Top 5 Trailers

It's that time of year again, guys! The geekfest that is San Diego Comic-Con has come, and with it, new content on upcoming films has been shown. Yesterday a load of trailers were released online. Unfortunately not as many trailers released compared to the last year's Hall H presentations. However, I was still able to find 5 trailers which really were the highlight of Comic-Con 2017.

No.5: Bright

This is one of the most intriguing films that is set to come out this year. Looking a lot like End Of Watch (2017) and The Lord Of The Rings (2001). Where magical creatures have been living in our world for a while. It follows a beat cop, played by Will Smith (Independence Day, Suicide Squad) who is partnered with an Orc, played by Joel Edgerton (Warrior, Zero Dark Thirty), who must protect a magic wand, a weapon that people would kill for in order to obtain. The trailer shows some very good visuals, a fascinating aesthetic for the world the film is based in, and some pretty interesting characters. David Ayer (End Of Watch, Suicide Squad) is the director and I'd say he's made this film look visually interesting, despite Suicide Squad's (2016) many flaws it did have very good visuals. And with the screenplay written by Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra),  this film looks to be a pretty big hit for Netflix.

No.4: Stranger Things Season 2

After the sensational first season of Stranger Things (2016) was released on Netflix last year fans began their long wait for Season 2. The trailer released at Comic-Con and the show is bringing back everything fans loved from the first season. 80's pop culture references, horror elements and the four kids that stole the show. This season appears to put Will (Noah Schnapp) in the spotlight, which is good since audiences didn't really get a chance to know him in season 1. Also, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is set to return, and the reunion between her and Mike (Finn Wolfhard) is going to be emotional! This season is set to come out in October, around Halloween time, which is a good idea due to the horror elements of this show. I cannot wait for this season.

No.3: Ready Player One

Based off of the books by Ernest Cline, Steven Spielberg (E.T, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind) brings to life this fan-favourite novel. following the protagonist Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) who lives in a dystopian world where people escape into an MMO game called the OASIS. I will be honest, I watched this trailer knowing nothing about this story. So I was hugely surprised to see things like the Iron Giant and the Delorean from Back To The Future (1985). I think this film looks incredible, from this trailer. With the visuals that look like something out of Tron or an over-the-top video game. I'm very excited to see this film when it comes out next year.

No.2: Justice League

It was difficult to decide between the 1 & 2 spots for this list. But, ultimately I decided to put Justice League at Number 2. This trailer is phenomenal! revealing Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), returning to Themyscira and showing off the power of the mother-box. Not to mention the incredible fight scenes displayed by all of the league members. Every hero here has a moment to shine in this trailer. Flash's (Grant Gustin) speed and humour, Wonder Woman's (Gal Gadot) kick ass fight scene at the start, Aquaman (Jason Momoa) riding a Parademon through a building, Cyborg (Ray Fisher) taking control of the Nightcrawler, and Batman (Ben Affleck) in the Batmobile. Also some nods to other parts of the DCEU such as Steppenwolf mentioning the Green Lantern Corps and the bit at the end where Alfred talks to a mysterious figure. Most likely a resurrected Superman (Henry Cavill), BUT WHO KNOWS?! This looks like it'll be DC heaven. I cannot wait any longer!

No.1: Thor Ragnarok

Arguably the trailer that won Marvel Comic-Con. Anyone who reads this blog will know that I ranked Thor Ragnarok at the bottom of my list of Superhero films of 2017. However, that was before any promotional material for the film had come out and now I would rank this film a lot higher on that list! The Thor films have been pretty weak in my opinion. But this film appears to be taking a different direction than the previous films. Dropping the watered-down Game Of Thrones (2011) aesthetic and swapping it for a more of a He-Man (1983)/ Death-Metal Album cover art design, which looks incredible! The battle between Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) looks interesting, Hela (Cate Blanchett) looks like she'll be Marvel's best villain and the visuals for the fight scenes, particularly the scene between Hela and the Valkyries. I am now more excited for this film than I was when it was first announced. Shaping up to be the best Thor film ever!

So that's the list of the Top 5 trailers that have come out of Comic-Con. Are there any that you believe should have been on this list? If so then please comment. Thank you for reading and if you liked this then please subscribe for more content. :)

Spider-Man: Far From Home Review (No Spider-Man spoilers, Endgame Spoilers)

So after the immense success of Avengers: Endgame (2019, Joe & Anthony Russo) , becoming the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time. And now, Marvel hopes to continue their ongoing story with Season 2 Episode 1. Spider-Man: Far From Home (Jon Watts) . The second movie in the MCU's new Spider-Man trilogy, which has proved incredibly popular with fans of both the MCU and Spider-Man in general. But with things like the events of Endgame to deal with, will this movie be weighed down by the weight of that movie? Or can it possibly hold its own? Marvel has had a pretty good run this year. Hopefully, it doesn't trip at the finish line. Initial Thoughts This is a damn good follow-up to Endgame . It's nowhere near as big in scope but it's definitely a good start to a new chapter in the MCU. Focusing more on the aftermath of Endgame and how Spider-Man is coping in a post-Iron Man world and trying to sort out his life as Peter Parker.  Spider-Man/Peter Parker/Tom Ho...

Spider-Man Out of the MCU? - Situation Review

A couple of days ago it was revealed that re-negotiations between Sony and Disney around Spider-Man have fallen through and the character will be taken out of the MCU entirely. This has come as quite a shock to most fans, especially after the release of the latest movie Spider-Man: Far From Home (John Watts)  which recently passed the $1 Billion mark in the worldwide box office.     So what does this mean for the future of the beloved Superhero? Well in this Situation Review I will be discussing why Sony did what they did and several possibilities for what will happen with Spider-Man. Disney Vs Sony So, the decision comes after Disney wanted to change the deal that they had with Sony so that they would gain 50% of the overall gross of the Spider-Man movies, rather than the 5% that they were currently receiving. A move that Sony wasn't happy with.     Now, if they were only talking about the movies then this would seem like a fair deal. The...

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

The final episode in the sequel trilogy, and the overall Skywalker Saga, is finally out! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019, J.J Abrams) will hopefully answer the questions that have been set up since the beginning of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, J.J Abrams) . But due to fans being displeased with this new trilogy, such as the highly negative response from fans after the previous instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson)  and with the latest anthology movie Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018, Ron Howard) being a financial disaster, can this movie live up to the success of its predecessors and redeem the franchise in the eyes of fans? First Thoughts This movie is good, I liked it as a movie. The action's good, the visuals are great and the characters are fun to watch. But as a finale to the overall Skywalker Saga, it's quite disappointing. The story feels more like it's trying to make up for lost time rather than tell a good stor...
