Marvel/DC: San Diego Comic-Con

With the Marvel and DC panels officially over at San Diego Comic-Con, a lot of things were revealed by both sides. From Concept Art and dates for upcoming films. We'll be going through what was revealed and what was talked about on both panels.

Marvel

Captain Marvel

After announcing at last year's SDCC that Brie Larson will be taking the role of Carol Danvers, A.K.A: Captain Marvel, fans finally get some details of what the film will be about. From this concept art, we get to see what her costume will look like, and it looks amazing. It looks similar to Captain America's (Chris Evans) costume. I'm a little on the fence about that, as I think her costumes should stand out from other heroes, but it still looks really good. Captain Marvel (2019) will take place in the 90s and will see the title character facing against the Skrull. This actually makes a lot of sense, as Carol Danvers gets her abilities from a Kree warrior, also called Captain Marvel. In the Marvel comics, the Kree are in a century-long war with the Skrull, so it makes sense for her to fight them. It's also good to note that the Skrull are huge villains in the Marvel comics, particularly in the storyline Secret Invasion (2008) so perhaps the MCU is building up to that? The film will also see Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Hateful Eight) returning as Nick Fury, probably pre-eye patch so he might get it in this film. I am very excited to see what this film has in store for audiences. Hopefully, it looks as good as this concept art suggests.

Ant-Man & The Wasp

2018 will see the return of Scott Lang, A.K.A: Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), who will be accompanied by Hope, A.K.A: The Wasp (Evangeline Lily). With the reveal of the new poster, it's quite clear that the two of them will make an interesting team. Plus, it's clear we'll be getting Giant-Man from Captain America: Civil War (2016) so that's great! It was also announced that Marvel has hired Michelle Pfeiffer (Scarface, Batman Returns) as Janet Van-dyne, wife of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), mother to Hope and the original Wasp. Who, in the first film, was said to have died by shrinking to a subatomic level. But, after Scott survived shrinking to a subatomic level at the end of Ant-Man (2015) it was suggested that she had also survived and was living in the micro-verse. I like Pfeiffer as an actress and I believe she'll do a good job as Janet. It was also announced that Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix, Man Of Steel) will be playing Ben Foster, A.K.A: Black Goliath, who was a friend of Hank when he was Ant-Man. and, in the comics, was an on-again/off-again hero. Fishburne is a very talented actor, not so sure of hiring someone who has a role in the DCEU as Perry White, Superman's boss. But Fishburne is a good actor and I'm sure he can bring his wit and charm to this role. If Ant-Man And The Wasp is anything like its predecessor then I'm sure it'll be a big hit with fans.

Avengers: Infinity War

Arguably the most anticipated Marvel film in the works. Avengers: Infinity War (2018) has been built up since The Avengers (2012) with the Thanos tease in the credits. The fans who were in Hall H during the Marvel panel were treated to a sneak-peak of the film. Unfortunately, it hasn't been released online, but there are several leaks on YouTube that may result in a similar situation to the Suicide Squad trailer that was leaked in 2015, forcing Warner Bros. to release it officially. From the leaks, it looks like Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will meet the Guardians Of The Galaxy and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) will team up again, Bucky (Sebastian Shaw) will be un-frozen and put back in the field and Captain America (Chris Evans) will grow a beard! This is the film that'll unite the entire MCU together against the big-bad Thanos (Josh Brolin) who is trying to possess all of the Infinity Stones and obtain ultimate power. This film will be a love letter to 10 years of films from the MCU and will be the biggest Superhero film of all time.

DC

Flashpoint

For the DCEU several films were announced to be in the works, such as Wonder Woman 2 and Suicide Squad 2. But the biggest reveal was that the Flash Solo Film would be called FLASHPOINT. This is something no one was expecting. Primarily because it's an odd choice for the Flash's first solo film. Primarily because Flashpoint was already made as an animated film back in 2013. It was also used in the Flash tv show. So it feels like the story is a bit overdone. In the Flashpoint story, The Flash travels back in time and prevents his mother's death. But the ripples he created during his travel back shifted the timeline out of place so many characters lead different lives and the world was on the brink of collapse. What's also important to note is that Flashpoint also paved the way for the DC reboot The New 52. So to have this as the first Flash solo film could mean that the DCEU is going to use this as a way to adjust parts of their timeline, as audiences have had very mixed reactions to most of their films. If the DCEU is able to improve on the story then I'd say go for it. But, at the moment, doesn't seem like a good idea for the first Flash film.

Shazam

In other news for the DCEU it was revealed that Shazam is hoping for an early 2019 release, and now has David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) as its director. Sandberg hasn't really directed a huge blockbuster before so it's curious as to why Warner Bros. would choose him to direct. But, then again, Patty Jenkins (Monster) hadn't done a blockbuster before Wonder Woman (2017) and that turned out very well. So there is hope for Shazam, I look forward to seeing what Sandberg can do with Shazam and I definitely hope that DC is able to pull off the concept of the character, as he's more or less just come across as Superman-lite.

Aquaman

The fans who were in Hall H for the DC panel were given a teaser trailer for next year's Aquaman. Whilst I haven't seen the trailer itself, I have read descriptions of what was shown. From the sounds of it, director James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7) is taking inspiration from the Throne Of Atlantis storyline, as the description talks of a huge Army rising from the ocean and, according to Jason Momoa (Game Of Thrones, Conan the Barbarian) has clarified, the army belongs to Ocean Master, the main antagonist of Throne Of Atlantis. I hope that we'll see some released content for Aquaman soon. I have such high hopes for this film!

So these are the highlights from Marvel and DC panels. IF there was anything that I missed and you felt that I should have mentioned then please comment on it. And if you liked this post then please follow this blog for more content. :)

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

The final episode in the sequel trilogy, and the overall Skywalker Saga, is finally out! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019, J.J Abrams) will hopefully answer the questions that have been set up since the beginning of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, J.J Abrams) . But due to fans being displeased with this new trilogy, such as the highly negative response from fans after the previous instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson)  and with the latest anthology movie Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018, Ron Howard) being a financial disaster, can this movie live up to the success of its predecessors and redeem the franchise in the eyes of fans? First Thoughts This movie is good, I liked it as a movie. The action's good, the visuals are great and the characters are fun to watch. But as a finale to the overall Skywalker Saga, it's quite disappointing. The story feels more like it's trying to make up for lost time rather than tell a good stor...

SDCC 2018. Top Five Movie Trailers

SDCC has come and gone, and with it, a whole load of movie trailers have dropped for fans to sink their teeth into! Overall, it seems that Warner Bros. dominated the convention, bringing in new content from most of their divisions, such as DC, The Wizarding World and their Monster Universe. So, without further ado, here is my top 5 list of the movie trailers that were released this year for Comic-Con. 5. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald The hype for this new chapter in the Wizarding World continues with the latest trailer. Whilst the trailer doesn't really reveal a lot more than the previous trailer it does give us some good moments. The beginning with Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as a child showing his greatest fear is working behind a desk or that Dumbledore (Jude Law)  sees Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) in the Mirror of Erised. We even get to see new beasts, such as the strange cat creatures, and the first look at Nicholas Flemel, the creator of the Phil...

Aladdin Movie Review (No Spoilers)

Aladdin (1992, Ron Clements/Jon Musker)  is one of the standout animated movies of the Disney Renaissance that took place in the '90s. With hit songs, like A Whole New World , and a Performances from Robin Williams (Hook, Good Will Hunting)  as the Genie. And now, with Disney producing Live-action of their animated classics, a Live-Action Aladdin seemed inevitable. But with Guy Ritchie directing (Rock'N'Rolla, Sherlock Holmes) having something a spotty track record at the box office, and with his last movie King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword  being bashed by critics. Not to mention the lacklustre first reactions to the promotional material of this movie. Should Disney be concerned with how this performs with critics and the box office? Or will this movie's nostalgia factor be enough to get it through all that? Initial Thoughts I really enjoyed this movie! From the trailers and TV Spots, this movie kinda looks like a shallow reimagining of the animated origina...
