Godzilla is one of the most recognisable movie characters in history. Being a staple in Japanese cinema. However, he hasn't really faired well in Hollywood. There was the first movie adaptation in 1998 directed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, 2012)  which many fans of the character took a serious disliking too and then there was the reboot in 2014 directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One)  which fans were nicer too but overall weren't entirely pleased. But that movie was the first in a cinematic Monster Universe that Warner Bros is hoping to continue. With the 2014 Godzilla movie, Kong: Skull Island (2017, Jordan Vogt-Roberts) and with this current follow-up Godzilla: King Of The Monsters (2019, Michael Dougherty) .  Initial Thoughts This movie is awesome! After the tremendous success of Aquaman (James Wan, 2018)  DC has high hopes for its latest movie Shazam! (David Sandberg, 2019) based on the Golden Age Superhero, originally named Captain Marvel, the story centres around a young Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who is able to turn into an adult (Zachary Levi) with powers similar to Superman when he says the word "SHAZAM!". Whilst not a very well known superhero, the character does have something of a cult following and is very well known among the DC fanbase. Particularly for being able to hold his own against Superman. But whether or not he can hold his own movie, particularly next to DC's highly iconic Superhero pantheon, is another thing. As many of you are aware, DC has many projects lined up for the future. But one that has the most speculation behind it is Matt Reeves's Batman Solo film. This film has produced so many headlines and it doesn't even have a release date yet. From Ben Affleck (Argo, Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice) stepping down as director and writer of the film, to Matt Reeves (Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Let Me In)  stepping in as director and writer, and now news that pre-production has been pushed back to later this year! After starring in Justice League (2017, Zack Snyder/Joss Whedon)  over a year ago, Aquaman (Jason Momoa)  is finally getting his solo movie. Many audiences seem disconcerted with this movie, due to DC's shaky track record with critics, but with director James Wan (Furious 7, The Conjuring) at the helm things could turn around for the struggling movie franchise. The trailers have advertised a truly engaging movie experience. So it's time to see if the DCEU can win back audiences that have been disillusioned by the previous movies. Initial Thoughts This movie is incredible! It's a captivating thrill ride that is one of the most faithful comic book movies I have ever seen. From the costumes to the action, this is Aquaman come to life! The action is incredible, the visuals are stunning to behold and the characters are really enjoyable to watch. Aquaman is due to hit theatres in a week. In order to celebrate its release, here is my ranking of the DCEU. The DCEU has been quite divisive with fans, with some loving it and some hating it. I find myself in the former category. I do like what the creators have done with these films (Most of the time) and I am looking forward to where the DCEU goes from here. At the moment, the DCEU has only released 5 films so this will be a ranking of them rather than a top 10 list. Just to be clear that this list is my own personal opinion and may differ from your own personal list. 5. Suicide Squad (2016, David Ayer) I'm not going to say that I hate this movie, I actually do enjoy it for what it is. However, I can't really say this is a good movie. The pacing is so fast that it's difficult to really get into the story, the dialogue is sometimes just laughable, and the action is inferior when compared to other movies in the DCEU. Yesterday it was dropped by Variety that James Gunn (Guardians Of The Galaxy, Slither)  has been hired by Warner Bros. and DC to write the script for the upcoming  Suicide Squad 2  and to possibly direct it as well. This is the first project that Gunn has been hired for since he was fired from Guardians Of The Galazxy 3  in July this year after several tweets that the filmmaker wrote around 8 years ago were revealed that caused serious controversy. Initial Thoughts I'm 50/50 on this news. James Gunn did an amazing job with the first two Guardians Of The Galaxy movies, personally, I think they're the most visually beautiful Marvel movies ever made, and Suicide Squad is basically DC's answer to GOTG . SDCC has come and gone, and with it, a whole load of movie trailers have dropped for fans to sink their teeth into! Overall, it seems that Warner Bros. dominated the convention, bringing in new content from most of their divisions, such as DC, The Wizarding World and their Monster Universe. So, without further ado, here is my top 5 list of the movie trailers that were released this year for Comic-Con. 5. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald The hype for this new chapter in the Wizarding World continues with the latest trailer. Whilst the trailer doesn't really reveal a lot more than the previous trailer it does give us some good moments. The beginning with Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as a child showing his greatest fear is working behind a desk or that Dumbledore (Jude Law)  sees Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) in the Mirror of Erised. Last night it reported that actor Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club, Blade Runner 2049) would not only be acting but producing a Joker Solo film for the DCEU. The reaction to the news has been divisive over fans. Some fans are willing to give Leto another shot whilst others do not wish to see Jared Leto ever wear the Make-up ever again. However, I believe the situation is a little more complicated than people are saying. And, to be honest, more complicated than it really should be. Leto's Joker Personally, I think a Jared Leto Joker movie could be quite good. Leto's Joker was quite interesting and very different from other interpretations of the character. Also, I imagine Leto wants to do the character justice. Whilst I believe  Suicide Squad  did lay a foundation for a good interpretation of the Joker it also held Leto's performance back.
