DCEU movies: Ranked Worst to Best

Aquaman is due to hit theatres in a week. In order to celebrate its release, here is my ranking of the DCEU. The DCEU has been quite divisive with fans, with some loving it and some hating it. I find myself in the former category. I do like what the creators have done with these films (Most of the time) and I am looking forward to where the DCEU goes from here. At the moment, the DCEU has only released 5 films so this will be a ranking of them rather than a top 10 list. Just to be clear that this list is my own personal opinion and may differ from your own personal list.

5. Suicide Squad (2016, David Ayer)

I'm not going to say that I hate this movie, I actually do enjoy it for what it is. However, I can't really say this is a good movie. The pacing is so fast that it's difficult to really get into the story, the dialogue is sometimes just laughable, and the action is inferior when compared to other movies in the DCEU. This was mainly down to a serious re-edit of the film which really threw it way out of proportion. With bad editing and under-developed characters, Suicide Squad doesn't hit the same quality as other Superhero films.

4. Justice League (2017, Zack Snyder, Joss Whedon)

It says a lot that the two films with the most studio interference are at the bottom of this list. Whilst I did give this film a glowing review upon first watching it last year, my opinion on the film has changed since then. Particularly with what has come to light on how much this film was changed in reshoots and editing. And because of this, it’s really affected how I personally feel about the theatrical release. I do like the film overall, it really feels like fans were robbed of an incredible cinematic experience and were given something that was just okay. The film is still quite fun to watch, with some character interactions being quite cool. But overall, it feels like a load of wasted potential.

3. Man Of Steel (2013, Zack Snyder)

The one that started it all. Whilst many fans weren't happy with the way Superman was portrayed in this film, as it is quite different from the famous Christopher Reeves portrayal of the character. But I thought this was a really good modernisation of Superman’s origin. Taking inspiration from other modern interpretations of the story, such as Birthright and Earth One. It has stunning visuals that take you out of this world, Superhero action unlike anything before it and a unique Superman. Also, Han Zimmer’s Score is absolutely incredible! Definitely worthy of Superman!

2. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice (2016, Zack Snyder)

This film split fans down the middle. With many arguing over the quality of it to this day. Personally, I love this movie. I will agree that some of the criticisms people have made about this film are legitimate, overall, I think this is an incredible film! It takes DC's biggest characters and pits them against each other, whilst also serving as an interesting character study for both of them. With a Superman conflicted about his role in the world and a Batman so angry that he abandons his morals. With great action scenes that are visually amazing, great acting from the lead actors and a compelling story. I really think that this film is one of the most under-appreciated superhero films ever made.

1. Wonder Woman (2017, Patty Jenkins)

The most well-received movie in the DCEU so far, by both critics and audiences. And deservedly so. Whilst Batman V Superman introduced the character, it was this film that expanded on who Wonder Woman is and what she stands for. And you can definitely see how different she is from Superman and Batman and yet just as important as them in the world of DC. With some of the best writing and visuals in the DCEU so far, Wonder Woman is an amazing movie that best reflects why audiences have loved this character since 1941. Also, the film helped show how female superheroes are just as good as their male counterparts, something that the genre had been struggling with until now.

So that's my list of ranking of all 5 currently released DCEU movies. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree? Leave a comment down below. And, if you liked this post then you can follow this blog for more content. Thank you for reading!

Auteurship: David Fincher

The Auteur theory is that a director's film reflects the director's personal creative vision.  I am going to use  David Fincher as an example, because he usually has similar aspects throughout all of his films such as bleakness of a setting; several single frames that flash, low-key lighting and characters that are in the shadows so you can’t see their faces. All of these styles can be found in Fight Club (1999). In most of Fincher’s films the settings seem to have a bleak and uninteresting look to them. In Fight Club this is shown in places like the office of where Jack works, the cancer support group hall, Jack’s apartment. All of these places are just different shades of the same colour (mainly green, grey or dark orange). This is to convey a sense of misery and darkness within the storyline, which the characters are just drifting through their lives. Something that Fincher portrays beautifully in Fight Club. This is a good example of David Fincher’s position as an Au...

Oz: The great and Powerful Review

When I first heard that this film was being made I was very skeptical. The Original film with Dorothy and the wicked witch was an important part of many people's childhood that it seemed that this prequel couldn't live up to it. But after seeing it at the cinema my skepticism was laid to rest. This film is AWESOME!!!    The film follows a similar structure narrative-wise to that of the Wizard of Oz. You start off with in Kansas where everything is in black-and-white, keeping to continuity, then you have the twister that takes the character to the land of Oz. The audience is then introduced important characters like Theodora and Evanora, we even get the journey down the yellow-brick road. The writers have brilliantly taken all these elements from the previous film and used them to create a contemporary origin to the Oz that children were introduced too in 1939.    James Franco was well cast in this role as a rude and selfish magician who w...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Trailer Highlights

Star Wars: The Last Jedi New Poster So Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) comes out in December and we're only now getting the second trailer, just two months away from the release date. Either Disney has seriously dropped the ball on the promotional campaign or they're just so confident in this film that they feel it doesn't require a lot of publicity for fans to get excited about. My guess would be the latter. Since the past two Disney-Produced Star Wars films have both raked in a combined total of $3,124,280,897, It'd be safe to say that Disney would think that. However, right before the trailer was released last night, director Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) suggested to fans that they should avoid this trailer. WHAT?! What kind of a marketing tactic is that?! Perhaps if you wish for fans to avoid spoilers then you should urge the marketing campaign to avoid them at all costs. Initial Thoughts Yeah! This trailer has me more intrigued about the story than ever, ...
