Oz: The great and Powerful Review

When I first heard that this film was being made I was very skeptical. The Original film with Dorothy and the wicked witch was an important part of many people's childhood that it seemed that this prequel couldn't live up to it. But after seeing it at the cinema my skepticism was laid to rest. This film is AWESOME!!!

The film follows a similar structure narrative-wise to that of the Wizard of Oz. You start off with in Kansas where everything is in black-and-white, keeping to continuity, then you have the twister that takes the character to the land of Oz. The audience is then introduced important characters like Theodora and Evanora, we even get the journey down the yellow-brick road. The writers have brilliantly taken all these elements from the previous film and used them to create a contemporary origin to the Oz that children were introduced too in 1939.

James Franco was well cast in this role as a rude and selfish magician who wishes for greatness, however I do think that Oz should have been played by someone who people relate to as sleazy like Robert Downey Jr. or Colin Farrell, Franco is usually thought of as nice and trusting due to roles in Your Highness and Spider-man. Mila Kunis does a great job as Theodora and her transformation into the wicked witch of the west was really sad. Although there were some moments that I just wanted to say "Shut up Meg!" sometimes she was annoying. The actor who was the best cast out of all of them had to be Zach Braff with his character being very similar to that of J.D, you will notice a J.D/Dr.Cox relationship between Oz and monkey.

The special effects were amazing! Raimi and Disney truly have brought Oz to life with the use of colourful skies, props and magic. Imagine the previous film but 10 times better!.

Bottom line, watch the film because you'll love it :)

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

The final episode in the sequel trilogy, and the overall Skywalker Saga, is finally out! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019, J.J Abrams) will hopefully answer the questions that have been set up since the beginning of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, J.J Abrams) . But due to fans being displeased with this new trilogy, such as the highly negative response from fans after the previous instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson)  and with the latest anthology movie Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018, Ron Howard) being a financial disaster, can this movie live up to the success of its predecessors and redeem the franchise in the eyes of fans? First Thoughts This movie is good, I liked it as a movie. The action's good, the visuals are great and the characters are fun to watch. But as a finale to the overall Skywalker Saga, it's quite disappointing. The story feels more like it's trying to make up for lost time rather than tell a good stor...

Spider-Man: Far From Home Review (No Spider-Man spoilers, Endgame Spoilers)

So after the immense success of Avengers: Endgame (2019, Joe & Anthony Russo) , becoming the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time. And now, Marvel hopes to continue their ongoing story with Season 2 Episode 1. Spider-Man: Far From Home (Jon Watts) . The second movie in the MCU's new Spider-Man trilogy, which has proved incredibly popular with fans of both the MCU and Spider-Man in general. But with things like the events of Endgame to deal with, will this movie be weighed down by the weight of that movie? Or can it possibly hold its own? Marvel has had a pretty good run this year. Hopefully, it doesn't trip at the finish line. Initial Thoughts This is a damn good follow-up to Endgame . It's nowhere near as big in scope but it's definitely a good start to a new chapter in the MCU. Focusing more on the aftermath of Endgame and how Spider-Man is coping in a post-Iron Man world and trying to sort out his life as Peter Parker.  Spider-Man/Peter Parker/Tom Ho...

Hobbs & Shaw Review

So the Fast & Furious franchise has been going on for a while now! Starting off as just a rip-off of Point Break (1991, Kathryn Bigelow) but with cars but then slowly evolving into this globe-trotting, action thriller series that rivals even the biggest movies franchises with its huge box office numbers and loving fanbase. And now the F&F franchise dives into new waters with it's first of, hopefully, many spin-offs around two of their popular characters Hobbs & Shaw . With their frienemy relationship in Fate Of The Furious (2017, F. Gary Gray) being one of the highlights of that movie, fans are really excited to see what this spin-off has in store for them. Initial Thoughts This movie is insane! It's balls-to-the-wall mayhem and I love it! It has great action, a tonne of one-liners and three great actors that really drive the story. The F&F franchise is very well known for being bonkers in its plot and action and this doesn't disappoint. Hob...
