Captain Marvel Review (No Spoilers)

Marvel continues its saga with the latest instalment Captain Marvel (2019, Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck) . Set in the 90s, and pre-dating the first MCU movie Iron Man (2008, Jon Favreau) , the movie follows a Kree Soldier who falls to Earth and slowly discovers that she used to be human, whilst also dealing with an invasion of shape-shifting aliens called the Skrulls. This movie is the first Solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that features a female lead and acts as the set-up for the character appearing in Avengers: Endgame (2019, Joe & Anthony Russo) . So there are some high expectations for this movie. After Wonder Woman (2017, Patty Jenkins)  proved how successful a female-lead Superhero movie can be, and the fact that it benefits from a highly loved cinematic franchise, hopefully, this movie can live up to those expectations.  First Thoughts Yeah, this a good movie. It's fun to watch and introduces audiences to an interesting new hero. However, compared to ...

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Review (Non-Spoilers)

In 2016 the Harry Potter franchise was brought back to the big screen with Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (2016, David Yates)  which built on the franchise, gave audiences a new look at the Wizarding World and introduced everyone to Newt Scamander, played by the talented Eddie Redmayne (Theory Of Everything, The Danish Girl) . And now its sequel hopes to continue that story. Now focusing on the war between the Ministry and Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp)  a dark wizard who is crucial to the character development of everyone's favourite future headmaster, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) . Boasting a stellar cast and incredible Visuals, how well does it live up to previous Wizarding World movies? First Thoughts Overall, I liked this film. It’s really good to step back into the Wizarding World and the film does a good job of building on it. And not just the world, but the characters as well are developed more in this film. However, the film does feel a little e...

Captain Marvel: Trailer Highlights

The first trailer for Captain Marvel (2019, Anna Boden/Ryan Fleck) has arrived! Marvel's answer to Wonder Woman (2017, Patty Jenkins) . Set 20 years prior to the current MCU films, we follow Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as she battles against the Skrull, a race of aliens that invade planets by disguising themselves as the indigenous population.  First Thoughts This trailer looks good. I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's great. There are a few things that hold it back a bit. But it still has me more interested in the film. It's also worth mentioning that Marvel has changed Captain Marvel's origins. Whilst they've kept the part o her being an airforce pilot given superpowers, they've also added some things. Such as giving her amnesia and making her a Kree soldier. This is probably so separate her from DC's Green Lantern, which she shares some uncanny similarities too. But overall. I do like this trailer. 1. Captain Marvel Lands ...

Captain Marvel: First Look - Image Analysis

Yesterday Entertainment Weekly released an exclusive first look at Marvel's latest upcoming film, Captain Marvel (2019, Anna Boen, Ryan Fleck) featuring first looks at Brie Larson (Room, Kong: Skull Island) as the main protagonist, Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes, Young Pope)  as Mar-Vell and the antagonists, the Skrull. This film will also set up Captain Marvel for the 4th Avengers film, which Captain Marvel was teased in the final scene. For this post, I haven't examined all of the stills revealed I've chosen the five that I think are worth talking about the most. Also, if you wish to read the official release from Entertainment Weekly, then click the link here.  https://ew.com/movies/captain-marvel-first-look-images/ 1. Our first official look at the Captain Marvel costume! And it is a vast improvement from those leaked photos that were released earlier this year. It still looks a little bit like a variation of Captain America's costume, but I'm willing to lo...

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald - Trailer Highlights

The Harry Potter Franchise is one of the most iconic in modern cinema. With a global fanbase that only so very few film franchises can rival and a total of $7.7 billion made worldwide from the original 8 films. And now, Warner Bros. and author J.K Rowling are hoping to continue the success of the Wizarding World with the Fantastic Beasts films. Whilst Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (2016, David Yates) didn't exactly hit the box office highs of its predecessors it has generated new interest in the Wizarding World, which is expected to grow with the sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald (2018, David Yates) .  First Thoughts This trailer is really intriguing! It doesn't really give a lot away but gives the audience an idea of what to expect. The characters from the first film are back, and the actors seem to be in top form. But the new characters (Or new actors in some cases) also really stand out! The visuals seem to be on point, giving us new things...
