Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: Review (SPOILERS!)

Straight off the heels of the colossal success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens Disney brings audiences Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Directed by Gareth Edwards). Focusing on the rebellion in the early years of the Galactic Civil War. Taking place between Episodes 3 and 4 the story follows Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and a group of rebels in their mission to steal the plans of the Empire's new superweapon, the Death Star! Overall, this was a fantastic film. From the acting to the effects to the script. It was one of the best cinema-going experiences I've ever had, even surpassing The Force Awakens in terms of quality in storytelling and direction. That being said, there were certain flaws with this film that did hold it back just a bit, but these were simple nitpicks that don't really take away a lot from the film's brilliance. 1. Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso Taking centre stage this time around is Felicity Jones, who plays Rebel Jyn Erso. Going into the film I did

Weekly Movie Highlights: Deathstroke in Justice League? First look at The Rock in Jumanji

This week has been a somewhat interesting week for movie news. We had the big reveal from Ben Affleck on the set of Justice League, first looks of films like Jumanji and Beauty and the Beast have been released and one of Hollywood's great comedic actors tragically passed away. So there have been ups and downs this past week, and we'll be diving into them. 1. Ben Affleck reveals Deathstroke Perhaps the most unexpected, and slightly cryptic, reveal of the week was Ben Affleck's Facebook video of Deathstroke being filmed on a monitor on a set. The set is most likely Justice League, as I believe that is the only DC movie being filmed at the moment. Many believe that he's the villain for the new Batman movie, directed by Ben Affleck, but so far as I can tell that movie is still in the script-writing stage. As for Deathstroke himself. He looks fantastic! It seems the filmmakers are taking inspiration from the video game Arkham Origins, which is a great idea as Deaths

Weekly Movie Updates: Jared Leto for Blade Runner 2, Black Suited Superman!

For this blog I'm starting a new thing called Weekly Movie Updates, where I highlight 5 movie headlines that came out in the week and discuss them. I can't promise that I'd be able to do this every week but I will do my best to do so. 1. Jared Leto cast in Blade Runner 2 The sequel to the iconic 1982 movie has cast Jared Leto. Whilst it hasn't been clarified as to the type of role that Leto will be playing it is most likely that he'll be playing a replicant (Robots that look like people). The reason I think this is because Leto's charisma, especially after playing the Joker, would be better suited for that kind of character. If you've ever seen the original Blade Runner then you'll know about the main antogonist, Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer), who embodied the ideals of rebellion with his punk look and inhuman characteristics. Whilst also expressing an attitude of self determination. Something that Leto could do a great job of embodying those charact

Batman: The Killing Joke Review (SPOILERS)

During San Deigo Comic Con this year Warner Bros. Animation premiered their long awaited adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke. For those who don't read comics, Batman: The Killing Joke is one of the most iconic, and most praised, Joker stories ever published. If you're ever wanting to get into comics, particularly Batman comics, then this story would be at your essential look into The Joker. This is because the comic shows the Joker at, arguably, his most darkest. Particularly at the time when comics were leaning away from kid-friendly material and going in a more dark and adult direction.    So because of how much fans loved the comic the animated adaptation of it has a very high standard to live up to. It's even rated R so that it can adapt the comic as best it can. But the question is does it deliver? And I would have to say no. There were some thing I liked about it and some things I really didn't. But overall, the cons outweighed the pros. Also, there will b

San Diego Comic Con 2016: Top 5 movie trailers

Comic Cons happen all the time around the world. From New York to London. But no matter what, the one Comic Con that gets all the big headlines every year is the one in San Diego. Home of the famous Hall H, people all over the world gather to take part in the event. And where big movie studios come to present their work to fans. For this post I'll be looking at the top 5 movie trailers that premiered at Comic Con this year. No.5: King Arthur I think that just about every generation has grown up with some version of the Arthurian legend. Whether it's live-action film, television or animation. But this trailer looks like a different take on the character then we've seen in a while. Giving Arthur more of a chip on his shoulder by being raised on the street. Charlie Hunham seems to fit the role quite well, judging from this first look. Guy Ritchie has placed his own personal style onto it, which I personally like. I think he did a very good job re-imagining Sherlock Ho

Justice League News: Top 5 moments

On Tuesday 21st June Warner Bros. held a press junket on the set of the latest in-production DC film, Justice League. Which is currently being filmed in London. Media outlets were allowed to explore the set to see what the film would have in store. Surprisingly, whilst many producers wish to keep things under wraps, Warner Bros. released a lot of info on Justice League. From story to character profiles and even descriptions of entire scenes. Here are the top 5 things to take from this press junket. 1. The Synopsis "Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes--Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash-- it may already be too late to sa

Moana: Top 5 Trailer Moments

SO! The trailer for Moana, Disney's latest animated princess movie, has finally landed online! This film has been hotly anticipated by audiences; primarily because of Dwayne Johnson, but also because it promises to be a celebration of Polynesian culture. This is fairly new for Disney - who are usually criticised for their lack of diversity.    Overall, I really liked this trailer. It mixes amazing visuals with good, old-fashioned family humour. The phenomenal animation also reflects how Disney has progressed since introducing this style with Tangled. However, whilst this trailer looks pretty, it is not flawless. I'll be getting into what I like and I didn't through 5 points that really stood out for me. Maui The trailer starts off with a hieroglyphic animation of Maui (Dwayne Johnson) – a Demi-God. This was done both beautifully and stylistically, leaving me in awe. Afterwards it’s shown that the hieroglyphs are actually Maui's tattoos, and that he's narr

Hardcore Henry Review

First Person video games are highly loved. Games like Call Of Duty, Dishonoured and Bioshock were heavily praised franchises. And with GoPro footage becoming more and more popular,, the medium has now translated into film. Already on YouTube we're seeing people use the first person glance to create immersive films, both action dramas and non-fictional pieces. So it made that Hollywood would attempt a film made completely from the first-person perspective. The result is Hardcore Henry. The use of GoPro cameras Hardcore Henry is both its highlight and its downfall. It really does help to immerse the viewer in this over-the-top world. Henry is the ultimate blank slate. The jumping point for the audience to understand what's going on and piece together everything. This is the best thing about the camerawork as it captures the spirit of first person gaming very well. However, it also makes it kinda difficult to watch at points. In YouTube videos that use GoPro cameras the camera i

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Review (Spoilers)

After three years of waiting Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice has finally arrived. And it is AMAZING! This film is one of the best comic book films I have ever seen. Now, I know this film has taken a serious pounding from critics, who have been merciless in their reviews. Is the film flawless? Of course not. There is definitely parts that could have been improved, and I'll be writing about those later. But those faults don't ruin the rest of it and it really doesn't deserve the beating it's taken. Now, onto the review! Note, this does contain spoilers. I would advise people to read the rest of this after they've seen the film. Perhaps the best thing, but also where the film's faults come in, is the writing. This script for this film is great! Chris Terrio has Taken the superhero genre away from the bright and fun tone from the 60's and 70's and using source material from more more interpretations of the characters and grounding in a semi-realistic

Future Star Wars films - Where the story could go: theories and speculations (MAJOR SPOILERS!)

So now that we've seen the Force Awakens, and have been introduced to this new Star Wars story, people have been speculating all over the web what will happen in the next in Episodes VIII and IX. What's the deal with Rey? Who are the Knights Of Ren? Why did Luke Skywalker leave? Well here are some ideas I've had about where the story could go with each character, based on fan theories and my own preference. This post will contain SPOILERS for the Force Awakens so, if you don't want to know anything, please do not read! REY: One the biggest mysteries about the new film was Rey who has such a mysterious past. Abandoned on Jakku as a child, and has an unbelievably strong connection to the force, even without training. Many fans have speculated that she's Luke's daughter, which would make sense since the Skywalker family are seriously strong with the force. I'm not so sure about that as it kinda makes the light/dark side struggle kind of in-house, as Ky
