Ant-Man & The Wasp: Trailer Highlights

2018 seems to be a busy year for Marvel, next month they have Black Panther (Ryan Couglar) and in May they have Avengers: Infinity War (Joe & Anthony Russo). But now they've released a trailer for their 3rd film for 2018 Ant-Man & The Wasp (Peyton Reed). Following the events of the previous 2015 film and Captain America: Civil War (2016, Joe & Anthony Russo). The film sees Heroes Scott Lang, A.K.A: Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van-Dyme, A.K.A The Wasp (Evangeline Lily) on the run from the Government and fighting a new villain called Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen).

First Thoughts

I really liked this trailer. It highlights all of the things that were good about the first Ant-Man movie. The characters are very likeable and interesting, the action is quite unique for a Superhero film and humour is very well done. So yeah, this trailer highlights all of that quite well.

1. Ant-Man & Wasp

The trailer starts out with Scott and Hope (Evangeline Lily) discussing what might have happened if she had come with him for the events of Civil War. I quite liked this conversation. It shows how far their relationship has progressed since Ant-Man (2015, Peyton Reed). Hope still mocks Scott but now she has this hidden respect for him. They seem to have a semi-romantic relationship whilst also being rivals in a way. It'll be interesting to see where their relationship progresses in this film as they just kissed in the first Ant-Man and it was just left there.

2. Goliath

Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix, Man Of Steel) is playing Dr. Bill Foster, an old friend of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) who, in the comics, is superhero Goliath. I'm not sure casting Laurence Fishburne was such a good idea, as he's also in the DCEU as the Daily Planet chief Perry White. So when I saw him in this trailer I thought "Oh hey! It's Perry White!". I think this is mainly because his performance in those films was actually quite good. But Fishburne is a good actor, so maybe he can make this performance stand out from his DCEU role.

3. Ghost

Hannah John-Kamen (Black Mirror, Ready Player One) is playing the Ant-Man villain, Ghost, who has the power to move through solid objects (a bit like Kitty Pryde from X-Men). Funny enough the Ghost from the comics is male. So this is a change to add more diversity, particularly in Marvel's villains line-up. So I'm okay with the change. Also, this costume looks great! It looks both haunting and intimidating. So I'm interested to see how this character plays out! Marvel hasn't really had much success when it comes to their villains. Last year they were quite good with characters like The Vulture (Michael Keaton) and Hela (Cate Blanchett). Hopefully, Ghost can continue this rise in quality!

4. The Wasp

Audiences finally get to see The Wasp in action! The action in the first Ant-Man film was very good and very unique, considering Ant-Man's powers. But the filmmakers seem to have one-upped themselves as this fight scene with Wasp and the knives looks incredible! And it looks different to the way Ant-Man fights, which is good. Particularly since she has different equipment compared to Ant-Man, such as wings and lasers. Also, I really liked the joke that Scott is a bit jealous that Hank gave those weapons to Hope instead of him. It's quite nice that Hank gave his daughter extra it so that she'll be safe in the field.

5. Size-changing action

Who wants to bet money that sales in Pez dispensers are going to rise due to this film? But in all seriousness, as I've said, I really like the way both Ant-Man and Wasp use their size-changing devices very effectively. At one point in the trailer, they use it to shrink the van they're in, go underneath an enemy van and then grow back to normal size, flipping the other van over. But I chose to use the giant Pez dispenser as the example for this because it sums up the film's style a lot more. It's quirky and funny but also shows how practical the heroes are with what they've got. Also, a little bit of shameless product placement never hurt anyone.

Conclusion

I really like this trailer! It has the great action that's unique to the Ant-Man brand, good character moments, particularly between Scott and Hope, and the villain looks down-right intimidating. I am sold on this film!

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

The final episode in the sequel trilogy, and the overall Skywalker Saga, is finally out! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019, J.J Abrams) will hopefully answer the questions that have been set up since the beginning of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, J.J Abrams) . But due to fans being displeased with this new trilogy, such as the highly negative response from fans after the previous instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson)  and with the latest anthology movie Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018, Ron Howard) being a financial disaster, can this movie live up to the success of its predecessors and redeem the franchise in the eyes of fans? First Thoughts This movie is good, I liked it as a movie. The action's good, the visuals are great and the characters are fun to watch. But as a finale to the overall Skywalker Saga, it's quite disappointing. The story feels more like it's trying to make up for lost time rather than tell a good stor...

Aladdin Movie Review (No Spoilers)

Aladdin (1992, Ron Clements/Jon Musker)  is one of the standout animated movies of the Disney Renaissance that took place in the '90s. With hit songs, like A Whole New World , and a Performances from Robin Williams (Hook, Good Will Hunting)  as the Genie. And now, with Disney producing Live-action of their animated classics, a Live-Action Aladdin seemed inevitable. But with Guy Ritchie directing (Rock'N'Rolla, Sherlock Holmes) having something a spotty track record at the box office, and with his last movie King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword  being bashed by critics. Not to mention the lacklustre first reactions to the promotional material of this movie. Should Disney be concerned with how this performs with critics and the box office? Or will this movie's nostalgia factor be enough to get it through all that? Initial Thoughts I really enjoyed this movie! From the trailers and TV Spots, this movie kinda looks like a shallow reimagining of the animated origina...

Spider-Man: Homecoming Review (SPOILERS)

Spider-Man has quite a few ups and downs since his first film in 2002. With the third movie derailing the original trilogy and then the controversial reboot in 2012. Now Spider-Man is now on his second reboot, with shared-custody between Marvel Studios/Disney and Sony. With Tom Holland coming into the role in last year's Captain America: Civil War  to tremendously positive results! With many calling him the highlight of that film. Now this version of Spider-man has been given his own solo film. With many hoping that it will bring Spider-Man back to his glory days in film. First Thoughts This film is fantastic! Really incorporating all of the elements that have made Spider-Man relatable for decades! The action is amazing, the humour is on-point (Particularly for a Spider-Man film) and the storyline is so fitting for the character! I really enjoyed the John Hughes-Inspiration that they took for this film. Giving it more of a coming-of-age feel, which is great because the f...
