Top 10 Blockbusters To Look Out For In 2018

And so 2017 finally comes to a close. and now we look to the horizon! 2018 is sure to bring us a whole new slate of blockbusters! Franchises are continuing, books are being adapted and some films are hoping to succeed in some areas where other films have failed. So this is sure to be an interesting year in terms of Hollywood!

Just as a disclaimer there are no Superhero films on this list as they'll have a list of their own later on.

10. Alita: Battle Angel (July 20th)

After the disappointment that was Ghost In The Shell (2017, Rupert Saunders) Director Robert Rodriquez (Desperado, Machete) and Producer James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar) are taking on the well-loved Manga about a Cyborg with no memory of who she was and must uncover her past. Whilst there are similarities to Ghost In The Shell I can't help but be interested in this project. The first trailer looks pretty good and the cast is actually quite strong. With names like Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained), Jennifer Connelly (Labyrinth, A Beautiful Mind), Ed Skrein (Deadpool, Game Of Thrones), and Mahershala Ali (Luke Cage, Moonlight). Yes, this film could indeed be the sleeper hit of 2018.

9. Mortal Engines (December 14th)

Based on the best-selling book series by Philip Reeve. Set in a Steam-Punk styled, Post-Apocalyptic world and focusing on a giant truck version of London. The trailer doesn't seem to give much away. But it does look impressive and I'm heavily by what the story behind it is! I mean, I could read the book... Nah. The film will do. The film stars actors such as Stephen Lang (Avatar, Don't Breathe) and Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, V For Vendetta) and has the same team that gave us The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (2001, 2002, 2003). So this film is shaping up to be a good watch!

8. Pacific Rim: Uprising (March 23rd)

A sequel to Pacific Rim (2013, Guillermo Del Toro), this film looks to be bigger and more action-packed than it's predecessor. with Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Daredevil) taking over directing duties and John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Detroit) taking over as the lead. Don't expect it to be exactly like the original. However, after seeing the trailers it's clear that they're still keeping the same quality of action that the first one presented, if not more!

7. Tomb Raider (March 15th)

And so we yet another Video Game Adaptation try its luck on the Silver Screen. Based on the 2011 reboot of the Lara Croft franchise, we see Lara (Alicia Vikander) stranded on an island fighting for her own survival. The reboot did receive high praise from fans and re-vitalised the franchise. It also gave the game more of a cinematic feel, so a film adaptation isn't entirely impossible. Vikander seems to look good in the role, and it seems to have caught the feel of the game quite well. But with the long history of Video Game adaptation failures, this one has a lot to prove!

6. Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It-Ralph 2 (March 9th)

A sequel that many Disney fans are looking forward too. Ralph and Vanelope are back and this time they're taking on the internet! With the internet and Social Media being a big thing today this is sure to click with a lot of audiences. John C. Reily (Step Brothers, Kong: Skull Island) and Sarah Silverman (School Of Rock, Bob's Burgers) return as the famous duo from the first film, and fans of Moana (2016, Ron Clements, John Musker) should be pleased as the character is set to make a cameo in the film. But this is shaping up to be just as good as its predecessor with a whole new world to explore!

5. Ready Player One (March 30th)

Based on Ernest Cline's best-selling novel, Steven Spielberg (E.T, Jurassic Park) tackles directing duties and Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse, Mud) is in the lead role, Wade Watts. A boy who finds solace in an MMO game called the OASIS. Much like Ralph Breaks The Internet, a lot of audiences can relate to this, as most people do like to escape online via Social Media and other Internet Services. Also, this film is filled with many pop culture references. Such as Back To The Future (1985, Robert Zemeckis) and Joker and Harley from the Batman franchise. So expect a lot of nostalgia to be in this film. Ready Player One looks like it'll be a huge hit at the box office and with critics!

4. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald (November 16th)

A sequel to Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (2016, David Yates), this film will focus on the war against Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp). Whilst the first film failed to hit the same magical box office numbers of the Harry Potter films, it was still a box office success and sparked further interest in the Magical world. Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables, The Theory Of Everything) returns as Newt Scamander and joining him is Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes, Enemy At The Gates) as a younger Albus Dumbledore. Expect more world building and more insight into these popular characters.

3. Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th)

A film that has been plagued with doubt since it was first announced. With a lead actor (Alden Ehrenreich) that not many fans have a lot of confidence in, to behind-the-scenes drama, such as switching directors halfway through production. Not many Star Wars fans have a lot of faith in this film. However, I believe this film could work. Ron Howard (Rush, A Beautiful Mind) is a talented director who I think can fix any issues that were plaguing the production, and Alen Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar, Rules Don't Apply) has proven to be a good actor. So I do believe that this film can stick the landing. We won't really have an idea until a trailer drops. But I have faith.

2. Mission: Impossible 6 (July 27th)

After the success of Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015, Christopher McQuarrie) fans are excited about the next outing of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and Co. However, this is the first time that a Mission Impossible film has the same director as its predecessor and the first time the female character is returning. So expect the film to have a similar feel to Rogue Nation. But that's okay! Because that film was incredible! Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel, Man From U.N.C.L.E) is joining the cast with the moustache that gave the Justice League VFX crew a migraine. But from Cavill's Instagram account, the Behind-The-Scenes videos and photos look incredible! Expect a lot of action, stunts and some Tom Cruise running!

1. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 28th)

Since the first Jurassic World (2015, Colin Trevorrow) became the 4th highest grossing film of all time, this film has a lot to live up to! Chris Pratt (Guardians Of The Galaxy, Parks And Recreation) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Pete's Dragon, The Help) are back and so is fan-favourite Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, Independence Day) as everyone's favourite Chaos Theory expert, Ian Malcolm! From the look of the trailer, this looks to be a lot more action-packed than the Jurassic World and hopefully has a lot more memorable moments for this franchise!

So that's my list of Top 10 Blockbusters for 2018. What do you think of the list? Do you agree with me? Or have I missed out a film that you're really looking forward too? Leave a comment down below. Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

The final episode in the sequel trilogy, and the overall Skywalker Saga, is finally out! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019, J.J Abrams) will hopefully answer the questions that have been set up since the beginning of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, J.J Abrams) . But due to fans being displeased with this new trilogy, such as the highly negative response from fans after the previous instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson)  and with the latest anthology movie Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018, Ron Howard) being a financial disaster, can this movie live up to the success of its predecessors and redeem the franchise in the eyes of fans? First Thoughts This movie is good, I liked it as a movie. The action's good, the visuals are great and the characters are fun to watch. But as a finale to the overall Skywalker Saga, it's quite disappointing. The story feels more like it's trying to make up for lost time rather than tell a good stor...

Auteurship: David Fincher

The Auteur theory is that a director's film reflects the director's personal creative vision.  I am going to use  David Fincher as an example, because he usually has similar aspects throughout all of his films such as bleakness of a setting; several single frames that flash, low-key lighting and characters that are in the shadows so you can’t see their faces. All of these styles can be found in Fight Club (1999). In most of Fincher’s films the settings seem to have a bleak and uninteresting look to them. In Fight Club this is shown in places like the office of where Jack works, the cancer support group hall, Jack’s apartment. All of these places are just different shades of the same colour (mainly green, grey or dark orange). This is to convey a sense of misery and darkness within the storyline, which the characters are just drifting through their lives. Something that Fincher portrays beautifully in Fight Club. This is a good example of David Fincher’s position as an Au...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Trailer Highlights

Star Wars: The Last Jedi New Poster So Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) comes out in December and we're only now getting the second trailer, just two months away from the release date. Either Disney has seriously dropped the ball on the promotional campaign or they're just so confident in this film that they feel it doesn't require a lot of publicity for fans to get excited about. My guess would be the latter. Since the past two Disney-Produced Star Wars films have both raked in a combined total of $3,124,280,897, It'd be safe to say that Disney would think that. However, right before the trailer was released last night, director Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) suggested to fans that they should avoid this trailer. WHAT?! What kind of a marketing tactic is that?! Perhaps if you wish for fans to avoid spoilers then you should urge the marketing campaign to avoid them at all costs. Initial Thoughts Yeah! This trailer has me more intrigued about the story than ever, ...
