Weekly Movie Highlights: Flash Page One Rewrite, Tim Miller for Terminator Reboot

In this week for news in cinema, the Flash movie is getting a complete redo with a page one rewrite, hope has been rekindled for the Terminator Franchise, possible casting choice for Deadpool 2 has been teased and one of the U.K's best actors has tragically passed.

1. The Flash Movie in Crisis?
Yes, things don't seem to be looking well for the Scarlet Speedster. After the second director, Rick Famuyiwa, decided to leave the project in October it seems Warner Bros. have decided to wipe the slate clean with a Page One Rewrite. The Rewrite will be done by writer Joby Harold, who was the writer on Guy Ritchie's King Arthur film coming out this year, he has also written the Robin Hood: Origins film, which will star Taron Egerton as the Main character. Now, whilst I am personally excited to see the new King Arthur movie, both of these two blockbusters, that are to Harold's name, are untested with audiences. No one really knows if his writing will click with the mainstream audience. However, I'm willing to give him a chance. Plus, with Geoff Johns supervising the DC movies, and with Johns being a huge Flash fan, the script isn't going to fall into unsafe hands. So, hopefully, the script is in good hands. But if his other films fall short, and if it's due to the writing, then Warner Bros. should be worried.

2. Pierce Brosnan for Cable?
Recently Ryan Reynolds uploaded a photo on Instagram of himself, Hugh Jackman and Pierce Brosnan together. Whilst it looks like a simple, innocent pic of three guys just hanging out, many fans have interpreted this as Reynolds announcing that Brosnan has been cast as Cable for Deadpool 2. Personally, I think that's a bit far-fetched. To me, it just looks like the actors just having a good time. Now, I get why fans would assume it's a Cable announcement. Cable was teased by Deadpool at the end of the first film, Both Reynolds and Jackman are part of the X-Men Cinematic Universe and Brosnan does look the correct age to play Cable. If I am wrong and Brosnan really is playing Cable then I'm kind of 50/50 on the choice. I think Brosnan is a good actor. He can definitely do action, just watch Goldeneye to confirm that. But his roles usually fall under fun and comical. Cable is meant to be a hardened, gritty character. Almost the exact opposite of Deadpool. I see Brosnan as more of a lighter version of Deadpool. Personally, I like Stephen Lang for Cable. I think he looks the part and can play the part very well. But we'll see what happens. Hopefully, Brosnan isn't playing Cable. But at the same time, it's not the worst thing,

3. John Hurt (1940-1977)
On Friday night it was announced that One of Britain's best actors had passed away after a long struggle with Pancreatic Cancer. Hurt's most well-known roles were in films such as Alien, where he was the first character on-screen to have fallen victim to the infamous Xenomorphs. He also played the main character in Elephant Man, where he received immense praise from critics for his performance. Fans of the Harry Potter franchise will also remember Hurt fondly as the wandmaker Mr Ollivander, who gave Harry his wand in the Philosopher's Stone. Hurt was an incredibly gifted actor, both with his voicework and his versatile acting range. He will indeed be missed by fans around the world.

4. Margot Robbie as Tonya Harding
Pics from Margot Robbie's new film have emerged of her in a fat suit playing infamous Olympic Figure Skater Tonya Harding. I didn't really know who Tonya Harding was until this story was dropped but when I did my research I saw that this is Margot Robbie's attempt to win an Oscar. Tonya Harding was an Olympian who was banned for life after pleading guilty to taking part in the attack on fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan, which lead to Harding's ban from the sport and relinquishing her 1994 Championship title. This is a really good story to be adapted into a biopic and would definitely work well for Robbie. Similar to how Charlize Theron went through a body change for Monster and won an Oscar for her role in that film. However, whilst Robbie is wearing prosthetics to change her look Theron physically changed her appearance in order to play Aileen Wuornos. However, Robbie has other commitments, such as playing Harley Quinn for DC, that require her to look a certain way and altering her appearance physically would hinder any future projects she has. So I can understand the prosthetics. Robbie is indeed a good actress and I think she can pull off playing Harding very well.

5. Tim Miller to direct new Terminator. James Cameron to Produce
The Terminator is getting a third reboot. This time with Deadpool director Tim Miller in the Director's chair and James Cameron producing. Many fans are excited with this news, particularly after Terminator Genisys, which failed to connect with both fans and mainstream audiences alike. Tim Miller is a good choice for the franchise, after his success with Deadpool showing he knows how to direct action films. Also, James Cameron being back on the franchise is great news for fans, as the movies where he hasn't been present haven't really worked out. But this news breathes new hope for the franchise as fans eagerly wait to see what this new reboot of the franchise has in store for us.

And that is the highlights for this week's movie news. If there any stories you think I missed out or feel like should be talked about then please mention them in the comments below. I hope you've enjoyed reading :)

Auteurship: David Fincher

The Auteur theory is that a director's film reflects the director's personal creative vision.  I am going to use  David Fincher as an example, because he usually has similar aspects throughout all of his films such as bleakness of a setting; several single frames that flash, low-key lighting and characters that are in the shadows so you can’t see their faces. All of these styles can be found in Fight Club (1999). In most of Fincher’s films the settings seem to have a bleak and uninteresting look to them. In Fight Club this is shown in places like the office of where Jack works, the cancer support group hall, Jack’s apartment. All of these places are just different shades of the same colour (mainly green, grey or dark orange). This is to convey a sense of misery and darkness within the storyline, which the characters are just drifting through their lives. Something that Fincher portrays beautifully in Fight Club. This is a good example of David Fincher’s position as an Au...

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

The final episode in the sequel trilogy, and the overall Skywalker Saga, is finally out! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019, J.J Abrams) will hopefully answer the questions that have been set up since the beginning of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, J.J Abrams) . But due to fans being displeased with this new trilogy, such as the highly negative response from fans after the previous instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson)  and with the latest anthology movie Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018, Ron Howard) being a financial disaster, can this movie live up to the success of its predecessors and redeem the franchise in the eyes of fans? First Thoughts This movie is good, I liked it as a movie. The action's good, the visuals are great and the characters are fun to watch. But as a finale to the overall Skywalker Saga, it's quite disappointing. The story feels more like it's trying to make up for lost time rather than tell a good stor...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Trailer Highlights

Star Wars: The Last Jedi New Poster So Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) comes out in December and we're only now getting the second trailer, just two months away from the release date. Either Disney has seriously dropped the ball on the promotional campaign or they're just so confident in this film that they feel it doesn't require a lot of publicity for fans to get excited about. My guess would be the latter. Since the past two Disney-Produced Star Wars films have both raked in a combined total of $3,124,280,897, It'd be safe to say that Disney would think that. However, right before the trailer was released last night, director Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) suggested to fans that they should avoid this trailer. WHAT?! What kind of a marketing tactic is that?! Perhaps if you wish for fans to avoid spoilers then you should urge the marketing campaign to avoid them at all costs. Initial Thoughts Yeah! This trailer has me more intrigued about the story than ever, ...
