10 Blockbusters to look out for in 2017

So another Year has passed, and now another must begin. And with it comes a new slate of films ready for release. This year seems to be lined up as perhaps the biggest years to date for blockbusters. With franchises being started, re-invented or just continuing. Making this list was quite difficult to make. But I believe, for better or worse, these will be the blockbusters that will represent 2017.

I won't be putting in any superhero movies coming out this year because there are just so damn many. They'll be given their own list later on. I hope you enjoy the list.

10. Pirates Of The Caribbean 5
It's been 6 years since the last Pirates movie. And, after the last movie, the franchise is in desperate need of some franchise CPR. With Johnny Depp reprising his famous role as Jack Sparrow once again, and Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley returning to the franchise as Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan. Only time will tell what will happen with this film. But this could well be the steer in the right direction that the Pirates of the Caribbean needs. Plus Javier Bardem joins the cast as the movie's antagonist and he looks f@#king terrifying! (In a good way).

9. The Mummy
Kicking off the start of Universal's Monster Cinematic Universe is The Mummy. After Dracula Untold (2014) failed to click with audiences the studio is acting like that film never happened and is restarting this bigger universe with The Mummy. So far this film has a strong cast with Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Russell Crowe and Sophia Boutella (Who looks fantastic as the Mummy!). However, this is having to only compete with other movies coming out in June, such as Transformers 5 and Wonder Woman, but with the highly popular Brendan Frasier Mummy trilogy from the 2000's. Hopefully, it can escape that shadow. I personally really liked the first trailer for the film and I look forward to what this new cinematic universe has in store.

8. Ghost In The Shell
A seemingly huge risk being taken by Paramount Pictures, the cult favourite anime film is being given a live-action Hollywood interpretation. Scarlett Johansson takes centre-stage as The Major, a cyborg in charge of a Special Ops Task Force called Sector 9. From viewing the trailer the film is visually stunning. From the action, the effects to the set-pieces. Also, this is the possibly the closest thing we're going to get to a Black Widow movie (At least in the foreseeable future).

7. John Wick Chapter 2
After the unexpected success of the first John Wick back in 2014, with its crazy storyline, awesome action and Keanu Reeves finally in a role that suits him. A sequel was more or less imminent. What's really interesting about this film is that it looks at the consequences of the first film. John Wick is now back in the game and he can't get out. Chad Stahelski is back at the helm as director. Expect more brilliantly choreographed action and mayhem. Also, with the amount of globe-trotting in this film and more actors like Common and Ruby Rose being added on, expect this movie to be bigger than its predecessor.

6. Beauty &The Beast
Continuing with their Live-Action iterations of Classic animated movies. Disney have now created a Live-Action version of arguably one of their most well known, and my personal favourite, stories. Beauty And The Beast. From the look at the trailers, the film has definitely shown to have stunning visuals, capturing the magical element that made the original so great. What's also very good is the cast. With names like Dan Stevens, Emma Watson, Ian McKellen, Ewan McGregor and Luke Evans, this film is lined up to be a hit!

5. Kong: Skull Island
A film I sadly overlooked when I was doing my review of trailers that came out of Comic-Con in 2016. Jordan Vogt-Roberts directs the second instalment in the King Kong/Godzilla cinematic universe. Kong: Skull Island looks visually stunning, action-packed and epic on all levels! Kong himself is fully realised in all his awesomeness. I like that the film is set the 1970s, giving it a Vietnam war aesthetic. This film also boasts a great cast of Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston and John C. Reily. All have proven their acting chops in either blockbusters or Oscar-winning films in the past. I can definitely see success for this film.

4. Kingsman: The Golden Circle
Arguably the most unexpected success of 2015 was Kingsman. Inspired by the graphic novel by Mark Millar, Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and the other Kingsmen travel to the States to team-up with their American counterparts: the Statesmen. Perhaps one of the best ways to expand the Kingsman universe (It worked wonders for Harry Potter!) Joining the cast is fan favourite Channing Tatum, X-Men's Halle Berry and Julianne Moore as (possibly) the antagonist of this movie. Expect high action and many homages to old spy movies.

3. Alien Covenant
The film that crushed Niel Blomkamp's dream of directing an Alien movie. Alien Covenant is indeed a big risk on Ridley Scott's part. It's a follow-up to Prometheus (2012), which didn't really click with either fans or audiences. But Scott has had his reputation as a director revitalised due to the critical success of The Martian back in 2015. So this film will decide whether or not he can continue that success and redeem the Alien franchise. But from the look of the first trailer, it's definitely looking like it's riding in the right direction. With a very similar look to the first two Alien films, Alien Covenant should be a hit with fans of the franchise.

2. Blade Runner 2049
Speaking of continuations of Ridley Scott's work, 2017 sees the return of Blade Runner. One of Scott's best-known films, many are awaiting to see how this film plays out. In fact, many fans, including myself, didn't really think that Blade Runner really needed a sequel. However, the first trailer definitely looks amazing, with visuals and aesthetics very similar to the original. With a cast consisting of Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Jared Leto. And with director Denis Villeneuve fresh off of the critical praise of Arrival. This film is to bring in much attention.

1. Star Wars Episode VIII
The Star Wars Renaissance continues with Episode VIII (Still to be titled). With Rian Johnson taking charge of directing duties, fans eagerly await this new instalment. Hopefully, fans will get answers to many questions left in Force Awakens, such as: Who are Rey's parents, why did Luke leave and what is in store for Kylo Ren. With many of the cast and crew comparing this film to Empire, arguably the best Star Wars film of all time, expectations for Episode VIII are through the roof. Although, let's not hope that it's too much like Empire. After the narrative of Force Awakens was more or less a rip-off of New Hope. It would be a shame for this trilogy to be an entire rip-off of the originals.

These 10 films I believe will be the ones that truly represent 2017. Whether they are good or bad. But I have high hopes for all of them. I hope you enjoyed reading this post. If there are any film that I've left out that you feel should be on this list then please comment. (Just remember that this is a Blockbuster list).

Spider-Man: Far From Home Review (No Spider-Man spoilers, Endgame Spoilers)

So after the immense success of Avengers: Endgame (2019, Joe & Anthony Russo) , becoming the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time. And now, Marvel hopes to continue their ongoing story with Season 2 Episode 1. Spider-Man: Far From Home (Jon Watts) . The second movie in the MCU's new Spider-Man trilogy, which has proved incredibly popular with fans of both the MCU and Spider-Man in general. But with things like the events of Endgame to deal with, will this movie be weighed down by the weight of that movie? Or can it possibly hold its own? Marvel has had a pretty good run this year. Hopefully, it doesn't trip at the finish line. Initial Thoughts This is a damn good follow-up to Endgame . It's nowhere near as big in scope but it's definitely a good start to a new chapter in the MCU. Focusing more on the aftermath of Endgame and how Spider-Man is coping in a post-Iron Man world and trying to sort out his life as Peter Parker.  Spider-Man/Peter Parker/Tom Ho...

Spider-Man Out of the MCU? - Situation Review

A couple of days ago it was revealed that re-negotiations between Sony and Disney around Spider-Man have fallen through and the character will be taken out of the MCU entirely. This has come as quite a shock to most fans, especially after the release of the latest movie Spider-Man: Far From Home (John Watts)  which recently passed the $1 Billion mark in the worldwide box office.     So what does this mean for the future of the beloved Superhero? Well in this Situation Review I will be discussing why Sony did what they did and several possibilities for what will happen with Spider-Man. Disney Vs Sony So, the decision comes after Disney wanted to change the deal that they had with Sony so that they would gain 50% of the overall gross of the Spider-Man movies, rather than the 5% that they were currently receiving. A move that Sony wasn't happy with.     Now, if they were only talking about the movies then this would seem like a fair deal. The...

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

The final episode in the sequel trilogy, and the overall Skywalker Saga, is finally out! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019, J.J Abrams) will hopefully answer the questions that have been set up since the beginning of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, J.J Abrams) . But due to fans being displeased with this new trilogy, such as the highly negative response from fans after the previous instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson)  and with the latest anthology movie Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018, Ron Howard) being a financial disaster, can this movie live up to the success of its predecessors and redeem the franchise in the eyes of fans? First Thoughts This movie is good, I liked it as a movie. The action's good, the visuals are great and the characters are fun to watch. But as a finale to the overall Skywalker Saga, it's quite disappointing. The story feels more like it's trying to make up for lost time rather than tell a good stor...
