Justice League News: Top 5 moments

On Tuesday 21st June Warner Bros. held a press junket on the set of the latest in-production DC film, Justice League. Which is currently being filmed in London. Media outlets were allowed to explore the set to see what the film would have in store. Surprisingly, whilst many producers wish to keep things under wraps, Warner Bros. released a lot of info on Justice League. From story to character profiles and even descriptions of entire scenes. Here are the top 5 things to take from this press junket.

1. The Synopsis

"Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes--Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash-- it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions."

The best thing about this is that it fits so well into the ending of Batman V Superman. Where Batman felt more hopeful about the world because of Superman's sacrifice. And it makes sense that he'd assemble a team to honour him. Also, with Wonder Woman regaining her faith in man through Superman's death, it seems like hope has been restored to the DCEU. However, this could also be a problem. Due to the seriously negative reception of Batman V Superman it would make sense for DC to want to make a film that appeals to a wider audience. And the ending set up a more hopeful film. But there's a risk of going too light and just making a popcorn flick. Hopefully Snyder sticks to the meaningful storytelling but is able to make it more understandable to audiences.

2. Flash & Cyborg
Interestingly enough was the fact that a lot of information was given on both the Flash and Cyborg. The Flash will be more comical than the heroes we've seen in the DCEU so far. Mainly to add more humour to the franchise and because Flash is one of DC's most fun superheroes. So the writers are sticking to the source material. As for Cyborg, Tom Wilkinson, the costume designer, talked about how Cyborg would look. With his body being able to grow and his arms being able to turn into cannons. This is something i'm really looking forward to as, visually, Cybrog is going to be stunning! And I can't wait to see this portrayal of both characters on the silver screen.

3. Atlantis
Justice League, apparently, has a lot in store for Aquaman and his mythos, as they gave quite a bit of info on his world. Willem Dafoe was said to be playing Orm, a character from the Aquaman comics who was a trusted advisor to Aquaman when he was king of Atlantis. It was also said that Kristofer Hivju (Tormund from Game Of Thrones) will be playing an ancient Atlantean King. Which, if you've seen Game Of Thrones, is really exciting. The audience will be introduced to this new part of the DC mythos. As of this point, we've only just seen Batman and Superman. But now we'll get to see the Aquaman lore. Which is enriched with mythology, amazing villains and fantastic stories. Atlantis is going to play a big part in this story.

4. The McGuffin
In a deleted scene from Batman V Superman Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenburg) was staring at a hologram on the Kryptonian Ship. The hologram was of Steppenwolf (We'll get to him in a minute), and three motherboxes. Zack Snyder has confirmed that these three motherboxes are the McGuffins of this film. Basically thousands of years back Earth was given three motherboxes. One to Atlantis, probably where Hivju's characters steps in, Themyscira, Wonder Woman's home, and one to man. In DC comics Motherboxes create these portals called Boom Tubes that help people transport light years. And they're primarily created by a certain group of people who we'll talk about right now.

5. The Antagonist
It was revealed that the main villain of Justice League would be Steppenwolf. Steppenwolf is a New-God from the planet Apokalips, which is where the Motherboxes were created. Steppenwolf as the main villain is a great idea as he is a formidable foe for the Justice League. He leads the armies of Apokalips, which were shown in the dream/vision sequence of Batman V Superman where Batman had to fight off flying creatures. These creatures are called Parademons. Think of it as Steppenwolf being Loki and the Parademons being the Chitari army from The Avengers. Basically, he's a very good choice to have for the Justice League's first villain. And his appearance means that Darkseid will be the villain in the sequel, which is set for 2019. Darkseid is the leader of Apokalips and is, perhaps, the biggest villain in the DC universe.

So, these are the top 5 things to take from the Justice League Press Junket. Personally, I'm very excited for this film and hope it turns some of the people who hate the DC universe into fans. I would have liked to have known what they're going to with Superman. They did mention he may return but I really hope he's not just a side character. If you have anything to say about this then please comment down below. Thank you for reading.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

The final episode in the sequel trilogy, and the overall Skywalker Saga, is finally out! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019, J.J Abrams) will hopefully answer the questions that have been set up since the beginning of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, J.J Abrams) . But due to fans being displeased with this new trilogy, such as the highly negative response from fans after the previous instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson)  and with the latest anthology movie Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018, Ron Howard) being a financial disaster, can this movie live up to the success of its predecessors and redeem the franchise in the eyes of fans? First Thoughts This movie is good, I liked it as a movie. The action's good, the visuals are great and the characters are fun to watch. But as a finale to the overall Skywalker Saga, it's quite disappointing. The story feels more like it's trying to make up for lost time rather than tell a good stor...

Man of Steel-Review

2013 marks the 75th anniversary of the very first Superhero: Superman, and in honour of this iconic character DC and Warner Bros. have rebooted the franchise for a film, and it came out looking amazing! This film had so many great qualities to it that made it so beautiful. such as the mesmerizing SFX, the awesome action, the high standard acting and more. This is definitely a film that will be remembered for years to come. The film starts off on Krypton, where Scientist Jor-El (Russell Crowe) is pleading to the world's council about the destruction of the planet. Already we are shown a Krypton that has been brought to death due to individuals believing themselves to be like Gods without consequence. This is a theme throughout the whole film that Kryptonians believed themselves to be like Gods, as is presented through the fact that Kryptonians are grown rather than naturally birthed, the extraction of the Krypton's core for energy and through General Zod who values one group o...

Auteurship: David Fincher

The Auteur theory is that a director's film reflects the director's personal creative vision.  I am going to use  David Fincher as an example, because he usually has similar aspects throughout all of his films such as bleakness of a setting; several single frames that flash, low-key lighting and characters that are in the shadows so you can’t see their faces. All of these styles can be found in Fight Club (1999). In most of Fincher’s films the settings seem to have a bleak and uninteresting look to them. In Fight Club this is shown in places like the office of where Jack works, the cancer support group hall, Jack’s apartment. All of these places are just different shades of the same colour (mainly green, grey or dark orange). This is to convey a sense of misery and darkness within the storyline, which the characters are just drifting through their lives. Something that Fincher portrays beautifully in Fight Club. This is a good example of David Fincher’s position as an Au...
