Future Star Wars films - Where the story could go: theories and speculations (MAJOR SPOILERS!)

So now that we've seen the Force Awakens, and have been introduced to this new Star Wars story, people have been speculating all over the web what will happen in the next in Episodes VIII and IX. What's the deal with Rey? Who are the Knights Of Ren? Why did Luke Skywalker leave? Well here are some ideas I've had about where the story could go with each character, based on fan theories and my own preference. This post will contain SPOILERS for the Force Awakens so, if you don't want to know anything, please do not read!

REY:
One the biggest mysteries about the new film was Rey who has such a mysterious past. Abandoned on Jakku as a child, and has an unbelievably strong connection to the force, even without training. Many fans have speculated that she's Luke's daughter, which would make sense since the Skywalker family are seriously strong with the force. I'm not so sure about that as it kinda makes the light/dark side struggle kind of in-house, as Kylo Ren is also related to the Skywalkers through Leia.  Making more of a family squabble. There's another theory that she could be a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which I like because Obi-Wan is such a great character. Giving him a family would more to both him and Rey. So I like that.

Everyone can agree that Rey has taken the Luke Skywalker role in this new trio or her, Finn and Poe. She's learning the ways of the force from Luke. We'll be seeing a student-master dynamic between Rey and Luke. Hopefully this'll parallel between the Student/Master relationship between him and Kylo Ren.

FINN:
As I said in my review, Finn is the heart of the new trio we now have. Because of this I suspect he'll have more of a personal storyline going forward. Since he's a defected Stormtrooper we might see Finn coping with abandoning the people who raised him. From a Tie-in story for The Force Awakens it's revealed that Finn had friends when he was with the First Order. We even saw an example with T8-8R (The stormtrooper with the Lightning Baton), who served alongside Finn. Perhaps Finn could persuade any former friends he has in the First Order to defect as well.

POE DAMERON:
How awesome is Poe Dameron?! VERY! That's how much! From the Marvel Star Wars comics, set right after the events of Return Of The Jedi, it's shown that Poe's parents fought in the rebellion and served alongside both Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. So it's highly possible he was inspired by both of those figures in his life. I have a feeling that his story could tie in with Chewie and Han Solo's death. Maybe even replacing him? Okay, no one can replace Han Solo but Poe Dameron can sure live up to his reputation! He's already a cocky pilot! He's perfect to fill in the Han Solo role for this new trilogy.

CHEWBACCA:
Everyone is still getting over the horrific death of Han Solo. Just about everyone in the audience was in shock and horror. It would make sense for a character to embody these emotions in the next film and Chewie is the one who's most definitely can fit that criteria, due to his strong friendship with Han. So Chewie's story will be about mourning the death of his best friend.

KYLO REN:
In The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren's story is one of struggle between the dark and the light. In the end of the film he chooses the Dark Side. Normally, this would seem like the end of his struggle. But I don't think it is. I believe that the struggle for Kylo Ren's soul will continue. Perhaps the guilt of killing his own father (THE SON OF A B@#CH!) will haunt him throughout the next film. Whether or not it turns him back to the light is another story entirely.

Also, following Kylo Ren's story, Episodes VIII and IX need to go into the Knights Of Ren. We've only seen one of them and It'd be great to know how they differ from the Sith. We know they don't follow the Rule of Two (Only a Master and an Apprentice) but there's so much we don't know and they really should clarify!

LUKE SKYWALKER:
Okay! This guy has a lot of explaining to do! Why did he disappear? Could he not have helped the Resistance fight back against the First Order? Did he really have to make his whereabouts so cryptic? Anyway. Luke's story parallels that of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Trying to make up for teaching a young Jedi who then joined the Dark Side. We need to understand why Luke thought it was best to leave. Han Solo said that Luke went on the search for the first Jedi Temple. Well, if that's true then did that help at all? Does he now have a way of defeating the First Order and the Knights Of Ren?

What we do know is that Luke will in fact train Rey as his new apprentice, more as a way of making up for Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) betraying everyone. But he will in fact be taking a father-like role in this trilogy, much like how Obi-Wan and Yoda were to him.

So these are all the ideas that could possibly happen in future Star Wars films. These probably won't happen, as these are only theories, but it's good to speculate on what could potentially happen. Thank you for reading :)

Auteurship: David Fincher

The Auteur theory is that a director's film reflects the director's personal creative vision.  I am going to use  David Fincher as an example, because he usually has similar aspects throughout all of his films such as bleakness of a setting; several single frames that flash, low-key lighting and characters that are in the shadows so you can’t see their faces. All of these styles can be found in Fight Club (1999). In most of Fincher’s films the settings seem to have a bleak and uninteresting look to them. In Fight Club this is shown in places like the office of where Jack works, the cancer support group hall, Jack’s apartment. All of these places are just different shades of the same colour (mainly green, grey or dark orange). This is to convey a sense of misery and darkness within the storyline, which the characters are just drifting through their lives. Something that Fincher portrays beautifully in Fight Club. This is a good example of David Fincher’s position as an Au...

Oz: The great and Powerful Review

When I first heard that this film was being made I was very skeptical. The Original film with Dorothy and the wicked witch was an important part of many people's childhood that it seemed that this prequel couldn't live up to it. But after seeing it at the cinema my skepticism was laid to rest. This film is AWESOME!!!    The film follows a similar structure narrative-wise to that of the Wizard of Oz. You start off with in Kansas where everything is in black-and-white, keeping to continuity, then you have the twister that takes the character to the land of Oz. The audience is then introduced important characters like Theodora and Evanora, we even get the journey down the yellow-brick road. The writers have brilliantly taken all these elements from the previous film and used them to create a contemporary origin to the Oz that children were introduced too in 1939.    James Franco was well cast in this role as a rude and selfish magician who w...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Trailer Highlights

Star Wars: The Last Jedi New Poster So Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) comes out in December and we're only now getting the second trailer, just two months away from the release date. Either Disney has seriously dropped the ball on the promotional campaign or they're just so confident in this film that they feel it doesn't require a lot of publicity for fans to get excited about. My guess would be the latter. Since the past two Disney-Produced Star Wars films have both raked in a combined total of $3,124,280,897, It'd be safe to say that Disney would think that. However, right before the trailer was released last night, director Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) suggested to fans that they should avoid this trailer. WHAT?! What kind of a marketing tactic is that?! Perhaps if you wish for fans to avoid spoilers then you should urge the marketing campaign to avoid them at all costs. Initial Thoughts Yeah! This trailer has me more intrigued about the story than ever, ...
