Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review (Slight Spoilers!)

Throughout this year I have been super-hyped for this film, and was able to see it in IMAX, which I'm very happy I did because it really was the best way to witness the scope of this film. Honestly, this film was phenomenal! One of the best cinema experiences I've ever had. It does a wonderful job of establishing this new Star Wars galaxy whilst also paying homage to the classic trilogy. However, whilst this was a great film, it's not without it's flaws. Which I will be explaining further on. For this review I don't want to spoil anything big so I won't mention any of the older cast. Also, whilst I will mention specific scenes I won't go into any huge detail. The first thing I'd like to talk about is the use of practical effects for this film. Using practical effects helped so much in getting the audience invested in this film. The main problem with the prequels was that just about all the aliens and machines were digital, making them feel cold and li...

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Recently this week the new trailer for 2016's Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice was released, and I gotta say I love it! It really set the stage for the film, particularly in the first minute of the trailer, and gave audiences their first look at one of Superman's most dangerous villains. Here are the five things to take away from the trailer: 1) Bruce Wayne V Clark Kent Words Cannot describe how much I loved this part of the trailer as it set the rivalry between the two main characters perfectly. This isn't just a fight of strength but of morals and values: Clark Kent expresses his dislike of Batman's brutal methods whilst Bruce Wayne expresses his distaste for a God-Like being who could wipe humanity if he so wished. It's a great to not only have the heroes fight but also their alter egos, and how important they are in this conflict. Also, it's a change of pace to see two heroes simply talk about their issues with one another rather than just use a bunch...

Macbeth Review

After seeing the impressive trailers fro this film, not to mention my admiration for Shakespeare, I had some high expectations for this film when I bought my ticket for it. So imagine the terrific standard of this film when I say this film heavily exceeded my expectations with flying colours! This film is perhaps the best Shakespeare film adaptation that audiences have seen in a while. Not since the time of Kenneth Branagh has it been this good! The part where the film excels the most is the visuals. Believe it or not it's actually rare for a film set in Scotland to be filmed in Scotland. Braveheart was mostly filmed in Northern Ireland. Which is really strange due to how beautiful Scotland is. This is something that the film captures indefinitely, as director Justin Kurzel and cinematographer Adam Arkapaw making every shot look more like a painting rather than any ordinary film, capturing the majestic look of the Scottish terrain. This is perhaps the closest a film has been t...

Steven Speilberg's opinion on Superhero Films

As a child watching films I knew very little about what happened behind the scenes. Yet one name kept being repeated throughout. Steven Spielberg. These days I'm now completely aware of the mass impact that he had on cinema. Directing such iconic films like Jaws, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, E.T and many more. Now Recently Spielberg has given his opinion of the superhero genre, which is basically the #1 film genre at the moment. What Spielberg says is that Superhero films will die out in a similar fashion to the western genre. "We were around when the Western died and there will be a time when the superhero movies goes the way of the Western. It doesn't mean there won't be another occasion where the Western comes back and the superhero movie someday returns. Of course, right now the superhero movie is alive and thriving." As a huge fan of Superhero films this is a bit depressing. But at the same time it's probably true. Westerns were a huge genre in their...

Mary Poppins reboot?!

Just two days ago I found out that Disney are planning to remake one of their most loved films: Mary Poppins. I figure this decision was made due to Disney's success with other remakes of their classic films such as Alice In Wonderland, Maleficent and Cinderella. Not to mention the highly anticipated remake of Beauty And The Beast set for release in 2017. So to remake Mary Poppins would make sense if they're continuing this trend. Personally, I'm kinda 50/50 on this idea. I can understand why Disney would want to do it, and I believe, if they get a good director on it, the film could be a great hit that could live up to the original. However, the main reason I would take this with a grain of salt is that previous Disney remakes haven't really lived up to their predecessors. Alice In Wonderland may have grossed a Billion dollars in the worldwide Box Office but also met heavy criticism from audiences. As did Maleficent. But this was mainly because the films strayed t...

The Man From U.N.C.L.E Review

2015 has played host to a new wave of Spy films which have changed the genre altogether. We've had Kingman, the sophisticated spoof, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, the hard-edged stunt film, and Spectre is to hit theatres in late October and is a modern version of the franchise. The Man From UNCLE follows this pattern of modernizing the genre but, unlike the others it keeps a foot in the old ways as it's a 60's spy movie made in the stylized directorial vision of Guy Ritchie. The film takes place in the 1960's, at the time of the Cold War between the West and the East (Mainly America and the Soviet Union). And the film does well to set up the tension between the two sides, even for those with little knowledge on the era, within the first 10 minutes as the two main characters, played by Cavill and Hammer, run around East Berlin in a high-tense game of cat-and-mouse. This sequence helps to set up the character traits for both Cavill's Napoleon Solo, who acts l...

Captain America Civil War: The teams revealed

Right. Feel I need to talk about the new Concept art for 2016's Batman V. Supe- Oh sorry, Captain America: Civil War. This film will be based on the popular story line Marvel Civil War. The film be about Iron Man and Captain America fighting against one another over an act which demands accountability and oversight of superheroes. First off I have to say that the previous film, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, did not help set this film up very well, Because if anyone should fight for heroes to be held accountable for their actions it most certainly shouldn't be Iron man. If anyone deserves to be held accountable for their actions it's Tony Stark. He created Ultron. An artificial intelligence which went rogue and almost committed mass genocide. Stark did this behind the backs of his team-mates, he didn't even apologize and  he walked away scot-free. Honestly, Stark (and Bruce Banner for assisting) should be in prison for what he's done. However, I'm hoping that...

Assassin's Creed: Will it break the Video game curse?

So today an official image of Michael Fassbender was released to the public for the Assassin's Creed movie which is coming out on December 21st 2016. Fassbender will play Callum Lynch, a character made specifically for the film. Lynch discovers that he is the descendant of the Assassin's Guild and relives the memories of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Gaining the skills and knowledge of his ancestor he's able to take on the Knights Templar in present day. Personally I love Assassin's Creed. It's a great game series and I'm loving the costume that Fassbender is wearing is almost like it's taken out of the game. With the hood and the arm blades all looking so authentic. It's also good to point out that the film seems to be respecting the time period in which Aguilar lives in as the costume has a very 15th Century-esque look to it so I'm glad they're taking the material seriously. However, I do feel that making up new char...

The Star Wars Hype

If you're going to do a film blog you need to talk about Star Wars! In the fall of 2012 it was announced that Disney had bought Lucasfilm from mastermind George Lucas and, in effect, were to create a new Star Wars trilogy. At first fans weren't too happy about the news. Mainly because the last Star Wars trilogy didn't live up to the standards of the original and also the films would be produced by Disney, a company well known for happy, cheery and very family-friendly fairytale adaptations (Similar reactions to how Marvel fans reacted when Disney bought the rights to Marvel Studios). But now it seems everyone's had a change of heart. Everyone is waiting eagerly for this next chapter in the saga to be released, analysts are expecting it to be the biggest releases of 2015, and this is the year which saw Jurassic World top The Avengers to be the third highest grossing film of all time. So what's exactly got the fans to do a complete 180 and get on board with the n...
