Avengers: Endgame (Non-Spoiler) Review

11 years since Iron Man (2008, Jon Favreau) came out and began the biggest franchise in cinematic history. Who knew that they would come to this? Avengers: Endgame (2019, Joe & Anthony Russo) is the end of the long-running story arc that has been building since that very first movie back in 2008. And answers everyone's questions after the shocking events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018, Joe & Anthony Russo). After that movie was a blockbuster juggernaut, breaking the $2 Billion Mark worldwide, a lot of expectations are hanging on this movie. Can it truly live up to it? Fans have put a lot of trust into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and have rarely been disappointed. So, hopefully, this movie will what fans have been asking for since the climax to Infinity War.

First Thoughts

Avengers: Endgame is without a doubt the best MCU movie ever made. Paying off just about everything that has already been set up in such an epic and satisfying way. Character arcs come to an end, epic battles that have never been seen in Superhero Movies before are held and the future of the MCU is set. This movie will make fans laugh, cheer and cry. It truly is a unique cinemagoing experience.

A Comic Book Movie

What surprised me most about this movie is how much like a comic book event it actually is. What I'm talking about is when different comics tie in together to create this much bigger story. And Endgame does have that feeling, particularly in the way it's structured, which I thought was pretty cool and was done quite effectively. It also feels like a comic book in the way that it's shot. The cinematography in this movie feels an awful lot like comic book panels and it looks magnificent! Particularly in the third act which has incredible shots that look like they were ripped straight from the comics. I was in awe of that the whole time.

Respecting The Past

There are a lot of callbacks to previous MCU movies in this movie. Some pretty obvious in terms of the plot and some that were quite subtle but still had an emotional impact. But the callbacks to the past were used rather effectively in this movie and in ways I didn't imagine they could be used.

The Marvel Trinity

Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) are used very effectively. They have been a huge part of the MCU and it was great to see them treated with such respect in this movie. Their storylines in this movie are very well utilized and in quite a poetic way. Showing how each was affected by the events of Infinity War and how they rally to do something about it. There's a lot of high notes for all three and a lot of emotional moments. These three have been the backbone of this franchise and it's great to see them at the forefront of this movie.

Other Important characters

I can't really talk about other characters too much. But they do get a chance to shine in this. The most being Nebula (Karen Gillan) who had a bigger role than I was expecting but I was so happy she did because I loved her in this movie. Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) gets quite a few great moments in this movie. After feeling like she peaked in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014, Joe & Anthony Russo) it was good to see her having a much better role in this movie. And also, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) who is given some pretty good character moments that I really enjoyed. I wasn't a huge fan of Ant-Man & The Wasp (2018, Peyton Reed) so it was good to see him doing better here. As for other characters. They all get to shine in one way or another, and used quite effectively, and in some cases sparingly. But to go into it would be going into spoiler territory.

Thanos

If you thought Thanos (Josh Brolin) was a force to be reckoned with back in Infinity War then you haven't seen anything yet! The movie does such a good job of making him seem like this unstoppable force, even without the Gauntlet he is a force to be reckoned with! I definitely feel like Thanos is this generation's Darth Vader. With just his sheer presence striking fear into characters and audiences. Definitely the best MCU villain to date.

Action

For action fans, this movie will not disappoint. Audiences have seen how the Russo Brothers handle superhero action in previous movies like Captain America: Civil War (2016) but they amp it up even more for this movie. I can't give too much away but audiences will be blown away with what they get to see in this movie in terms of action.

VFX

The VFX in Infinity War was a little hit and miss. Whilst Thanos looked great there were other CGI characters that didn't look good at all. For instance, the Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) in the Hulk-Buster suit. But for this movie, they improve on it a lot. the CGI in this movie is amazing and on point.

Future of the MCU

I can't give too much away but the movie does open a lot for the future of the MCU. Which I am very excited about. Some things fans are expecting and some that they never saw coming. Rest assured, whilst this is a landmark movie for the MCU it is in no way dying out.

Conclusion

This movie pays off everything that the MCU has been building up for the past 11 years. It's funny, epic and very emotional. fans will love it and marvel at how incredible it is. This is a unique cinemagoing experience that I doubt will be replicated in the foreseeable future.

Spider-Man Out of the MCU? - Situation Review

A couple of days ago it was revealed that re-negotiations between Sony and Disney around Spider-Man have fallen through and the character will be taken out of the MCU entirely. This has come as quite a shock to most fans, especially after the release of the latest movie Spider-Man: Far From Home (John Watts)  which recently passed the $1 Billion mark in the worldwide box office.     So what does this mean for the future of the beloved Superhero? Well in this Situation Review I will be discussing why Sony did what they did and several possibilities for what will happen with Spider-Man. Disney Vs Sony So, the decision comes after Disney wanted to change the deal that they had with Sony so that they would gain 50% of the overall gross of the Spider-Man movies, rather than the 5% that they were currently receiving. A move that Sony wasn't happy with.     Now, if they were only talking about the movies then this would seem like a fair deal. The two studios would split the c

SDCC 2018. Top Five Movie Trailers

SDCC has come and gone, and with it, a whole load of movie trailers have dropped for fans to sink their teeth into! Overall, it seems that Warner Bros. dominated the convention, bringing in new content from most of their divisions, such as DC, The Wizarding World and their Monster Universe. So, without further ado, here is my top 5 list of the movie trailers that were released this year for Comic-Con. 5. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald The hype for this new chapter in the Wizarding World continues with the latest trailer. Whilst the trailer doesn't really reveal a lot more than the previous trailer it does give us some good moments. The beginning with Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as a child showing his greatest fear is working behind a desk or that Dumbledore (Jude Law)  sees Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) in the Mirror of Erised. We even get to see new beasts, such as the strange cat creatures, and the first look at Nicholas Flemel, the creator of the Philosoph

Spider-Man: Far From Home Review (No Spider-Man spoilers, Endgame Spoilers)

So after the immense success of Avengers: Endgame (2019, Joe & Anthony Russo) , becoming the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time. And now, Marvel hopes to continue their ongoing story with Season 2 Episode 1. Spider-Man: Far From Home (Jon Watts) . The second movie in the MCU's new Spider-Man trilogy, which has proved incredibly popular with fans of both the MCU and Spider-Man in general. But with things like the events of Endgame to deal with, will this movie be weighed down by the weight of that movie? Or can it possibly hold its own? Marvel has had a pretty good run this year. Hopefully, it doesn't trip at the finish line. Initial Thoughts This is a damn good follow-up to Endgame . It's nowhere near as big in scope but it's definitely a good start to a new chapter in the MCU. Focusing more on the aftermath of Endgame and how Spider-Man is coping in a post-Iron Man world and trying to sort out his life as Peter Parker.  Spider-Man/Peter Parker/Tom Ho
