SDCC 2018. Top Five Movie Trailers

SDCC has come and gone, and with it, a whole load of movie trailers have dropped for fans to sink their teeth into! Overall, it seems that Warner Bros. dominated the convention, bringing in new content from most of their divisions, such as DC, The Wizarding World and their Monster Universe. So, without further ado, here is my top 5 list of the movie trailers that were released this year for Comic-Con.

5. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald

The hype for this new chapter in the Wizarding World continues with the latest trailer. Whilst the trailer doesn't really reveal a lot more than the previous trailer it does give us some good moments. The beginning with Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as a child showing his greatest fear is working behind a desk or that Dumbledore (Jude Law) sees Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) in the Mirror of Erised. We even get to see new beasts, such as the strange cat creatures, and the first look at Nicholas Flemel, the creator of the Philosopher's Stone from the first Harry Potter film. 

4. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters

The sequel to the 2014 reboot and the third instalment in Warner Bros.'s shared Monster Universe. Godzilla is back! And now it seems the writers are replacing Aaron Taylor Johnson (Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age Of Ultron) with fan-favourite Millie Bobbie Brown (Stranger Things) and features several monsters from older Godzilla movies, such as Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah. So expect a whole lot more monster fights, which many fans, myself included, thought that the first film was sorely lacking. 

3. Glass

After the surprise ending of last year's Split (2017, M.Night Shyamalan) audiences are finally getting a sequel to the cult film Unbreakable. The film brings back Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Pulp Fiction) and Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, The Avengers) as their respected characters and also features James McAvoy (Atonement, X-Men: First Class) reprising his role as The Hord. Fans have been waiting for a return to Shyamalan's unique take on the Superhero genre for a while and now their patience is finally rewarded. This film definitely looks like it'll satisfy fans!

2. Shazam

One of the biggest surprises at Comic-Con this year was the love for this trailer. Featuring one of DC's more light-hearted heroes, Shazam (2019, David Sandberg) follows the story of Billy Batson (Asher Angel) a foster-child who says the word "SHAZAM!" and becomes a grown-up superhero (Zachary Levi). Whilst we don't get any real detail on the story or the villain Dr Sivana (Mark Strong), we do get a feel for the tone of the film, which is a lot lighter than previous DCEU films have been, which is a welcome change for some DC fans.

1. Aquaman

Arguably the most anticipated trailer this year was Aquaman (2018, James Wan) which seriously delivered. Presenting stunning visuals, great action and seriously comic-accurate designs. The film seems to be drawing heavily on Geoff Johns's run on the character back in 2011, particularly the Throne Of Atlantis storyline, which is welcome because it was a really good story! Jason Momoa (Game Of Thrones, Justice League) looks great as Aquaman and Yahya-Abdul Mateen II (The Get Down, Baywatch) looks incredible as the villain, Black Manta. Between this and Shazam it seems like DC is going in a brand new direction, which will hopefully be for the better.
