Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Costume revealed! - Image Analysis!

Yesterday the BBC revealed Jodie Whittaker's (Broadchurch, St. Trinian's) costume for her version of The Doctor in Doctor Who (2005- )

She appears to be sporting a dark-blue shirt with a rainbow stripe across it with light-blue trousers, held up by yellow suspenders, and brown boots. And to top it all off she's wearing a long, light-grey jacket.

Also to note that the TARDIS itself has changed. It appears to be sporting a darker shade of blue and with yellow mirrors, much like how it looked when Christoper Eccleston (Let Him Have it, Shallow Grave) and David Tennant (Broadchurch, Jessica Jones). But now it appears the colours on the sign have been reversed to a black background and white writing.

Personal Opinion

Personally, I am not a big fan of this costume. She looks like an Extra on The Fifth Element (Luc Besson, 1997). It looks way too flashy, way too eclectic and, frankly, this is something someone going to a music festival would be wearing. Not someone like The Doctor. I much preferred the clothes she was wearing when she was announced as The Doctor. Looking more like something The Doctor would actually wear. But this costume reminds me more of Colin Baker's (A Dozen Summers, The Airzone Solution) Infamous look as The Doctor more than anything else, with that daft multi-coloured jacket. Practically looking like someone who really wants attention from everyone else.

Past Doctors

Now, It's not like The Doctor wearing something stupid is anything new. Other Doctors have had somewhat questionable fashion choices. Matt Smith's (The Crown, Pride And Prejudice And Zombies) first costume in season 5 certainly didn't work for many fans. Looking like an Unaware geography teacher. In fact, even the characters in the show referenced how daft he dressed. Constantly mocking his bow-tie and fez, to the pleasure, or annoyance, of fans. But he did get a better costume in the second half of his final season. And then there was Peter Capaldi who, in his first costume reveal, seemed to be sporting some watered-down version of Jon Pertwee's (Worzel Gummidge, Carry On Screaming) costume from the 1970's. But he also had different variations of his costume which were much more appealing. So maybe Whittaker could also get variations to her costume that'll look better. Or get a different costume later on in her run as The Doctor.

The TARDIS

Yeah, as I said before, the TARDIS looks different. Looking more like it used in the first 4 seasons of the show. Only now the sign's colour scheme has been switched. This isn't really anything to get that excited about. It's the TARDIS, it more-or-less keeps the same shape. But, the last time the TARDIS changed its outer appearance was when David Tennant's Doctor regenerated into Matt Smith and more or less wrecked the whole thing. Causing it to change it's outer shell whilst it healed. So this might give audiences an idea of what might happen to The TARDIS in the upcoming Christmas episode. Either the Capaldi/Whittaker regeneration will also wreck the TARDIS, or it may take some heavy damage. So that's somewhat interesting.

Conclusion

Yeah, this costume isn't working for me. Personally, it kinda represents all the things I don't like about the show at the moment, the flashy, attention-seeking, pretentious narcissism that The Doctor has lately been showing. I was hoping that with Steven Moffat leaving the show the new creative team might work to get rid of that. But with this new costume that doesn't seem to be the case. I hope that Whittaker gets a different costume, or this one is tweaked to look better. But right now, this isn't working.

So that's my Image Analysis of Jodie Whittaker's costume as The Doctor. What are your opinions? Please comment down below. And, if you liked this post, then please follow and Subscribe to the blog for more content. Thank you for reading :)

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

The final episode in the sequel trilogy, and the overall Skywalker Saga, is finally out! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019, J.J Abrams) will hopefully answer the questions that have been set up since the beginning of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, J.J Abrams) . But due to fans being displeased with this new trilogy, such as the highly negative response from fans after the previous instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson)  and with the latest anthology movie Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018, Ron Howard) being a financial disaster, can this movie live up to the success of its predecessors and redeem the franchise in the eyes of fans? First Thoughts This movie is good, I liked it as a movie. The action's good, the visuals are great and the characters are fun to watch. But as a finale to the overall Skywalker Saga, it's quite disappointing. The story feels more like it's trying to make up for lost time rather than tell a good stor...

Aladdin Movie Review (No Spoilers)

Aladdin (1992, Ron Clements/Jon Musker)  is one of the standout animated movies of the Disney Renaissance that took place in the '90s. With hit songs, like A Whole New World , and a Performances from Robin Williams (Hook, Good Will Hunting)  as the Genie. And now, with Disney producing Live-action of their animated classics, a Live-Action Aladdin seemed inevitable. But with Guy Ritchie directing (Rock'N'Rolla, Sherlock Holmes) having something a spotty track record at the box office, and with his last movie King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword  being bashed by critics. Not to mention the lacklustre first reactions to the promotional material of this movie. Should Disney be concerned with how this performs with critics and the box office? Or will this movie's nostalgia factor be enough to get it through all that? Initial Thoughts I really enjoyed this movie! From the trailers and TV Spots, this movie kinda looks like a shallow reimagining of the animated origina...

Spider-Man: Homecoming Review (SPOILERS)

Spider-Man has quite a few ups and downs since his first film in 2002. With the third movie derailing the original trilogy and then the controversial reboot in 2012. Now Spider-Man is now on his second reboot, with shared-custody between Marvel Studios/Disney and Sony. With Tom Holland coming into the role in last year's Captain America: Civil War  to tremendously positive results! With many calling him the highlight of that film. Now this version of Spider-man has been given his own solo film. With many hoping that it will bring Spider-Man back to his glory days in film. First Thoughts This film is fantastic! Really incorporating all of the elements that have made Spider-Man relatable for decades! The action is amazing, the humour is on-point (Particularly for a Spider-Man film) and the storyline is so fitting for the character! I really enjoyed the John Hughes-Inspiration that they took for this film. Giving it more of a coming-of-age feel, which is great because the f...
