Avengers: Endgame Trailer Highlights

Yesterday Marvel, without warning, released the second trailer for Avengers: Endgame (Joe & Anthony Russo). After the first trailer and the Superbowl teaser gave absolutely nothing away, fans are hoping that this trailer will give them something that will tell them how the Avengers are going to undo the events of Infinity War (2018, Joe & Anthony Russo).

First Thoughts

Damn, this trailer hits you in the feels, whilst also upping the hype! It looks back on where the heroes have been and where they are now. Whilst also setting up a huge confrontation. And it does all of this without giving anything away! There is no clear message or indicator for the plan to take on Thanos (Josh Brolin) but has a lot to offer fans for what they can expect from the characters that they have been following for 11 years.

For anyone who has yet to see the trailer. Here it is:

1. A Reflection on 11 years

The trailer starts with a lovely look back at the past MCU movies all the way back to Iron Man (2008 Jon Favreau) with a black-and-white filter except for red which is meant to stand out. I'm not entirely sure why they made the colour red stand out in the flashbacks, perhaps because the Marvel Logo is red? But it looked very pretty so I'm okay with it. Overall, it's a very good reflection on the road that these heroes have taken and which the audience has watched them take, and all building up to this one moment. You can expect a lot of emotion in this movie!

2. Kate Bishop

I was not expecting this to be trending on Twitter but to my surprise it did! The trailer gives us our first look at what could be Kate Bishop, who is possibly reimagined as Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) daughter. For those who don't know, in the comics, Kate Bishop is an archery-based hero who has taken the mantle of Hawkeye in the past and is a member of the Young Avengers (Basically Marvel's Teen Titans) which many fans suspect will be in development in future MCU movies. This also works as a set-up for Clint, who is now appearing as Ronin rather than Hawkeye. Possibly due to his family being killed by Thanos's snap. So this both works as an example of what Clint Barton has lost to drive him to become Ronin and as a possible set-up for future movies (If this girl turns out to be Kate Bishop).

3. Captain America

There has been a lot of speculation around Captain America (Chris Evans) with many fans suspecting that he will die in this movie. Much like how the character did in the comics in the aftermath of Marvel Civil War. And this scene here really sells the idea that he'll sacrifice himself in the end. Strapping his Shield down and looking worn and fatigued but with one last trick up his sleeve! This looks like it will be an incredibly emotional moment for Captain America fans!

4. White Uniforms

We finally get to see the white uniforms that the Avengers will wear in this movie. Whilst it's a very cool moment in the trailer to see them all suited up and truly looking like a team. I'm not a really a huge fan of these uniforms. They just look a bit tacky to me. But it was still great to see everyone together for one last mission to save the Universe! If this doesn't get you pumped then nothing will!

5. Thor and Captain Marvel

This scene either makes or breaks the trailer for you. Depending on what you thought of Captain Marvel (2019, Ryan Fleck, Anna Boden). Thor (Chris Hemsworth) steps up to Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and summons his axe to his hand to test her. She doesn't flinch. The two stare at one another and Marvel gives him a slight smile. Ending with Thor saying that he likes her. I kinda like this moment. I wish Brie Larson didn't look so confrontational but the smile helped. Makes it look more like a bro-moment between the two. Making them seem like equal colleagues respecting each other.

Conclusion

This is a very exciting trailer! Interestingly not giving anything away! It reflects on the past and gets us very excited for the future. Showing how this movie is an event that has been 11 years in the making!

Auteurship: David Fincher

The Auteur theory is that a director's film reflects the director's personal creative vision.  I am going to use  David Fincher as an example, because he usually has similar aspects throughout all of his films such as bleakness of a setting; several single frames that flash, low-key lighting and characters that are in the shadows so you can’t see their faces. All of these styles can be found in Fight Club (1999). In most of Fincher’s films the settings seem to have a bleak and uninteresting look to them. In Fight Club this is shown in places like the office of where Jack works, the cancer support group hall, Jack’s apartment. All of these places are just different shades of the same colour (mainly green, grey or dark orange). This is to convey a sense of misery and darkness within the storyline, which the characters are just drifting through their lives. Something that Fincher portrays beautifully in Fight Club. This is a good example of David Fincher’s position as an Au...

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

The final episode in the sequel trilogy, and the overall Skywalker Saga, is finally out! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019, J.J Abrams) will hopefully answer the questions that have been set up since the beginning of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, J.J Abrams) . But due to fans being displeased with this new trilogy, such as the highly negative response from fans after the previous instalment Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson)  and with the latest anthology movie Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018, Ron Howard) being a financial disaster, can this movie live up to the success of its predecessors and redeem the franchise in the eyes of fans? First Thoughts This movie is good, I liked it as a movie. The action's good, the visuals are great and the characters are fun to watch. But as a finale to the overall Skywalker Saga, it's quite disappointing. The story feels more like it's trying to make up for lost time rather than tell a good stor...

Oz: The great and Powerful Review

When I first heard that this film was being made I was very skeptical. The Original film with Dorothy and the wicked witch was an important part of many people's childhood that it seemed that this prequel couldn't live up to it. But after seeing it at the cinema my skepticism was laid to rest. This film is AWESOME!!!    The film follows a similar structure narrative-wise to that of the Wizard of Oz. You start off with in Kansas where everything is in black-and-white, keeping to continuity, then you have the twister that takes the character to the land of Oz. The audience is then introduced important characters like Theodora and Evanora, we even get the journey down the yellow-brick road. The writers have brilliantly taken all these elements from the previous film and used them to create a contemporary origin to the Oz that children were introduced too in 1939.    James Franco was well cast in this role as a rude and selfish magician who w...
