Avengers Infinity War: Trailer Highlights

With Avengers: Infinity War (2018, Joe & Anthony Russo) fast approaching, Marvel thought it appropriate to release the second trailer, to increase the already incredible hype over the film! It seems that Marvel is taking a similar approach to the Infinity War publicity that Lucasfilm took with Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017, Rian Johnson). By keeping everything veiled in secrecy and releasing only a couple of trailers as possible, even having the second one come out so close to the theatrical release. Probably because, much like how Lucasfilm thought of The Last Jedi, Marvel knows that fans are not going to miss this film. It feels a lot more like an event than it does a cinema-going experience.

First Thoughts

Okay, this is a much better trailer than the first! The action and effects look incredible, the character interactions seem great and villain actually looks more threatening. This trailer gives away very little, only showing plot points that everyone already knew about, such as Darkseid's desire for the Infinity stones and all of the major heroes coming together on an unprecedented scale. But to actually see it executed is something extraordinary!

1. Thanos

The trailer starts off with a voice-over from Gamora (Zoe Saldana) talking about her adopted father, Thanos (Josh Brolin). Accompanied by various shots of different Avengers standing around looking worried. But it ends with Thanos taking the Space stone, which I imagine Loki (Tom Hiddleston) gives to him. You get a sense of how big the threat is in this short space of time. With heroes across the globe looking concerned and Gamora's chilling delivery.

2. Avengers Meet The Guardians

So we finally get to see Marvel's two teams come together. In an amusing little conversation between Iron Man (Robert Downer Jr.) and Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). Mind you, whilst this is funny, Star-Lord is kind of rude and condescending to Tony, seeing as they've only just met and the world is at stake. Whilst it is in Star-Lord's character to be that way, I was completely behind Tony at offended he was. And I never agree with Tony! I really hope we get to see more Avengers interacting with the Guardians but hopefully a lot more friendly to one another.

3. Gamora's childhood

This was unexpected! It seems that we'll be treated to some flashbacks of Gamora's childhood with Thanos. So the film could have some emphasis on the family drama between Gamora, Thanos and Nebula (Karen Gillan). Which is good, because I am really intrigued by their dynamic. But this scene, in particular, could be when Thanos first takes in Gamora. So we'll get to see how ruthless he can be when he's conquering civilisations.

4. Thor Vs. Thanos

We've seen how truly powerful Thor (Chris Hemsworth) can be in Thor: Ragnarok (2017, Taika Watiti). So to see him being crushed by Thanos proves just how powerful Thanos really is. This probably takes place in the same scene of when we saw Thanos put on the Space stone, which Loki gives to him, as Loki is also in this scene being held at gunpoint by Thanos's minions. This also probably takes place right after Thor: Ragnarok, as the mid-credit scene for that was a giant ship coming into contact with the ship that the Asgardians are on. So what happened to the people of Asgard? We must know!

5. Captain America Vs. Thanos

Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is back, rocking a much scruffier look compared to his clean-shaven appearance in previous films. This scene probably takes place in the finale. When Thanos attacks Wakanda and the Avengers are there to make a final stand against him. I'm not quite sure how Cap is able to hold back Thanos, particularly since he was strong enough to subdue Thor! but this is a very Captain America thing to do. To stare down an all-powerful enemy and not give up. Many people are suggesting that Cap will die in Infinity War and... Sadly, I can see that happening.

Conclusion

Yeah, this trailer is incredible. It has a lot of great action, interesting story points and some really good character interactions. I have no doubt that this film will live up to the hype!

So those are my Trailer Highlights for Avengers: Infinity War. What do you think of the trailer? Were there moments you thought were more important in the trailer that I didn't talk about? Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: Review (SPOILERS!)

Straight off the heels of the colossal success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens Disney brings audiences Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Directed by Gareth Edwards). Focusing on the rebellion in the early years of the Galactic Civil War. Taking place between Episodes 3 and 4 the story follows Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and a group of rebels in their mission to steal the plans of the Empire's new superweapon, the Death Star! Overall, this was a fantastic film. From the acting to the effects to the script. It was one of the best cinema-going experiences I've ever had, even surpassing The Force Awakens in terms of quality in storytelling and direction. That being said, there were certain flaws with this film that did hold it back just a bit, but these were simple nitpicks that don't really take away a lot from the film's brilliance. 1. Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso Taking centre stage this time around is Felicity Jones, who plays Rebel Jyn Erso. Going into the film I did...

Top 10 MCU films

With Avengers: Infinity War (2018, Joe Russo/Anthony Russo)  about to hit theatres I thought it would be good to look back on the long road travelled and pick the top 10 films produced by Marvel Studios. Just to clarify, this list is completely subjective so this list may differ from your own personal list. Also, I will only be focusing on the films that are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So any films made by Fox or Sony won't make the cut. 10. Doctor Strange The Introduction of magic into the MCU, Doctor Strange (2016, Scott Derrickson)  is a fun watch. Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, The Imitation Game)  does a fine job as the titular character and has a really good message of picking yourself up and rebuilding yourself when you've hit a really low point in life. The film also sports some very good visually interesting use of magic, with fight scenes that are quite suspenseful and more action-packed, unlike other fantasy films where two characters just...

The Star Wars Hype

If you're going to do a film blog you need to talk about Star Wars! In the fall of 2012 it was announced that Disney had bought Lucasfilm from mastermind George Lucas and, in effect, were to create a new Star Wars trilogy. At first fans weren't too happy about the news. Mainly because the last Star Wars trilogy didn't live up to the standards of the original and also the films would be produced by Disney, a company well known for happy, cheery and very family-friendly fairytale adaptations (Similar reactions to how Marvel fans reacted when Disney bought the rights to Marvel Studios). But now it seems everyone's had a change of heart. Everyone is waiting eagerly for this next chapter in the saga to be released, analysts are expecting it to be the biggest releases of 2015, and this is the year which saw Jurassic World top The Avengers to be the third highest grossing film of all time. So what's exactly got the fans to do a complete 180 and get on board with the n...
