Trailer Highlights- Avengers: Infinity War - Trailer #1

It's been just over 9 years since the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with Iron Man (2008, Jon Favreau). which became both a commercial and critical success.   Since then the franchise has become an unstoppable force in the Hollywood landscape. Grossing $13.4 Billion overall at the box office. And now the event that the MCU has been building up to since The Avengers (2012, Joss Whedon) with Avengers: Infinity War (2018, Anthony & Joe Russo). Where all of the different corners of the MCU, from The Avengers to the Guardians Of The Galaxy and even the Sorcerors come together to take on the big bad who's been working behind the scenes all of this time, Thanos (Josh Brolin)

First Thoughts

Yeah, if you're not already hyped about Infinity War then you will be after watching this trailer. It gives everyone a good representation of what to expect. A huge threat, many heroes coming together, on a scale that we've never seen before. But it also takes time to remind people of the past. Give audiences some time to think about how long we've been following these characters and how much they mean to us. Which is really good. If you haven't already seen the trailer then here it is. I would suggest watching it before getting into this post.

Legacy

The trailer starts off with shots of different Marvel characters, all saying the speech that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) said in The Avengers about getting the team together. I really liked this as it was a call back to how The Avengers came together and it shows how far each has come since the Battle of New York. Using Nostalgia to make the audience more concerned with the fate of these heroes as we've gotten to know them so well over the course of this time. Reminding us of the legacy that these films have established. The Voice-over also works because Nick Fury said that line in a time of serious need. When it seemed that all hope was lost. So the emotional impact that it had then is echoed here. As the Avengers are about to face their greatest threat yet.

Spider-Man

Yeah! Spider-Man (Tom Holland) is wearing the Iron-Spider Costume that Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) presented to him in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017, Jon Watts). It looks really cool! With the glowing eyes and the way Spider-Man moves. I don't know how big a role Spidey has in Infinity War but I do hope it's pretty sizeable. I have really enjoyed Tom Holland's performance so far as Spider-Man and I can't wait to see what else he can bring to the character.

Thanos

I... Honestly, don't know how to feel about Thanos. Whilst I really liked his voice-over about smiling over his actions. But I do not like the way he looks. Mainly his costume choice. It makes no sense to me. I enjoyed the way he looked in Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014, James Gunn) with his pretty cool armour. He looked a lot more menacing there than he does in this film. Speaking of GOTG, Thanos is all-armoured up whilst he's sitting in his space chair doing nothing. But when he's actually going into battle he's wearing he's wearing a gold vest... Perhaps it's just Dress-down Tuesday for him. Although, I will admit he seems threatening, particularly in the shots where he seems to be beating heroes such as Iron Man and Spider-Man. He seems like he's everything we were expecting. A formidable foe to the Avengers

Vision

In the first part of the trailer, we see Vision (Paul Bettany) looking more human than usual. Which is good for the actor, as he no longer needs to wear those weird looking prosthetics (I'm not much of a fan of how Vision looks in the MCU). But then it seems like he's about to have the Infinity Stone in his head ripped out, potentially killing him. Fans have had a feeling that this would happen, as Thanos is gonna need that stone for his Gauntlet. Perhaps we'll be spending a bit more time with Vision so that this scene has more of an impact on audiences. We'll have to see when the film is released.

Assemble!

This is the money shot right here. Captain America (Chris Evans) leading a group of heroes to battle! Cap seems to be rocking the bearded look, he's also joined by Bucky (Sebastian Stan), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), who appears to be rocking the platinum blonde look, Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and his Dora Milaje (Florence Kasumba). Followed by Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and War Machine (Don Cheadle). It's really good to see most of the Avengers back together, last time most of the characters met it wasn't exactly on good terms, but now they seem to be ready for battle. It's also interesting to note that it seems that Cap is leading the forces of Wakanda. Is Cap going to be in Black Panther (2018, Ryan Coogler)? Or is he just hiding there? We won't know until the film's release. But this shot looks fantastic, the scene looks like it'll be the highlight of the film!

Conclusion

This is a great trailer! It delivers just enough to get you excited about Infinity War. But it also takes time to reflect and look back on the past of the MCU. Giving it a sense of legacy and nostalgia. I have no doubt Infinity War will be a huge success and will be a love letter for fans who've been following this franchise since its beginning 9 years ago.

So what did you think of the trailer? Do you agree with my highlights? Is there something you felt should have been talked about instead? If so then please write a comment below. And, if you liked what you've read then please follow this blog for more content. Thank you for reading. :)

Auteurship: David Fincher

The Auteur theory is that a director's film reflects the director's personal creative vision.  I am going to use  David Fincher as an example, because he usually has similar aspects throughout all of his films such as bleakness of a setting; several single frames that flash, low-key lighting and characters that are in the shadows so you can’t see their faces. All of these styles can be found in Fight Club (1999). In most of Fincher’s films the settings seem to have a bleak and uninteresting look to them. In Fight Club this is shown in places like the office of where Jack works, the cancer support group hall, Jack’s apartment. All of these places are just different shades of the same colour (mainly green, grey or dark orange). This is to convey a sense of misery and darkness within the storyline, which the characters are just drifting through their lives. Something that Fincher portrays beautifully in Fight Club. This is a good example of David Fincher’s position as an Au...

Oz: The great and Powerful Review

When I first heard that this film was being made I was very skeptical. The Original film with Dorothy and the wicked witch was an important part of many people's childhood that it seemed that this prequel couldn't live up to it. But after seeing it at the cinema my skepticism was laid to rest. This film is AWESOME!!!    The film follows a similar structure narrative-wise to that of the Wizard of Oz. You start off with in Kansas where everything is in black-and-white, keeping to continuity, then you have the twister that takes the character to the land of Oz. The audience is then introduced important characters like Theodora and Evanora, we even get the journey down the yellow-brick road. The writers have brilliantly taken all these elements from the previous film and used them to create a contemporary origin to the Oz that children were introduced too in 1939.    James Franco was well cast in this role as a rude and selfish magician who w...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Trailer Highlights

Star Wars: The Last Jedi New Poster So Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) comes out in December and we're only now getting the second trailer, just two months away from the release date. Either Disney has seriously dropped the ball on the promotional campaign or they're just so confident in this film that they feel it doesn't require a lot of publicity for fans to get excited about. My guess would be the latter. Since the past two Disney-Produced Star Wars films have both raked in a combined total of $3,124,280,897, It'd be safe to say that Disney would think that. However, right before the trailer was released last night, director Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) suggested to fans that they should avoid this trailer. WHAT?! What kind of a marketing tactic is that?! Perhaps if you wish for fans to avoid spoilers then you should urge the marketing campaign to avoid them at all costs. Initial Thoughts Yeah! This trailer has me more intrigued about the story than ever, ...
